Installing games on a new computer from scratch.
I am sorry if this has been answered/solved and I just could not find it. Here is the thing

Last year, my computer died and everything on it is gone. Now I fancied having a return to Kerbal Space Program and installed and ran the Steam client. All the games are in the library, but none is installed on this hdd,

I clicked the install button but only got 1 file (SteamDep.txt) in the steamapps/common/KSP folder.

I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result. Attempting to start the game through steam only gives the inevitable error of missing files. Trying to repair does not give me the full game, only a check on that text file.

It's been a good while since I played any games and used steam so there is a lot about this that I have forgotten (old brain and all that).

So: What can I do to have this, and all the other games in my library, installed and working?

Mind you, reading can be a bit of a challenge for me so I would appreciate it if the thread is kept tidy and on point :)

There shouldn't really be anything to do except install->wait->play. Try reinstalling steam.

Also reboot the computer once in a while.
Thanks for that! I'll give that a go then.
You will need the proper .acf file in the steamapps folder to tell Steam your game/s are installed.
If you don't have them anywhere to copy from old installation, I can only suggest you redownload those games.
Edit
check your lisenses.
Do you still own this game?
Was it as free game?

Thanks! Just checked and it appears that I still own the games. At least they all appear on the list. As for redownloading, that's part of the issue as I can't redownload anything other than the said text file.

I tried reinstalling the client as well as restarting the computer. Same result. Only getting the text file. Other than that, the game folder is empty.

EDIT: For the record: KSP was gifted to me in 2014, the other games were bought later on.

What are your system specs? Do you run a 64Bit OS?
Aaah... It appears I have a 32 bit Win 10 on a 64 bit computer. Could this be the reason?

EDIT: Scrap that. I just managed to install Pirates Gold Plus and the TIE Fighter pack seems to install fine. So far it's only KSP that won't download and install.

EDIT 2: Mount&Blade Warband is now downloading too. Been a long time but is KSP that much resource hungry than M&B?

Thanks tons! That is unfortunate... Been at it since the demo and following the updates until last year and now it's full stop then. At least unless I can ask my boss for a major pay rise...
Or you could simply install a 64Bit Windows. Your license is valid for 32 and 64Bit, unless it's an extremely cheap OEM copy.
In that case you can run Windows 10 64Bit without activating it, which is essentially Windows for free.
Well, wouldn't mind new hardware as well as a 64 bit OS. One game I bought was Black Shark 2 and the old computer could barely run it. This abacus would stand no chance at all. Oh well, tax refund and vacation pay could solve that... next year!
I run Windows 10 on my 10 year old machine, runs faster than it did with Windows 7,

I havn't done it for several years, but Mucrosoft used to provide the installer as long as you have a valid license. On their website you can find a tool to download that hold your hand throughout the process to get the installer on a USB/download and install it immediately.

Edit: here it is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

Thanks but this piece of hardware I would barely trust to run Windows 3.1. Memory and CPU are not stellar.
What are your current specs?
This laptop can boast a P4500 CPU and 2.93GB usable RAM. As for the laptop itself, I borrow it so all I can see right away is it's a Dell but don't ask me what model exactly.
