How to stream a game long-distance?
So I'm on a trip across state and I'm not getting the "Stream" button for any of my games. It's worked before, so why not this time? They both used password-protected wifi.

I believe the stream function is only avalible if both computers are on the same wireless network.

In-Home Streaming only works within same network.

Yes, I get that. But how did it work last time I tried this? It was definitely a different network.

It's called "in-home streaming"
https://store.steampowered.com/streaming/

It's not possible to do it over different networks. It would also have such a delay that any game would be borderline impossible to play.

Okay I'll figure it out myself I guess. I already know it's "in-home streaming" and "on the same network". Doesn't change the fact that I've done it out of town (across state) before, though that was 1 or 2 years ago.

If you have an Nvidia GPU: https://moonlight-stream.com/

If the device you want to stream to is another PC you want the Chrome (Alpha) version.

This might be it. I'll see if I can get it running again

Carefully read through the documentation. It does require some setting up to work outside of your home network.

This thread is five years old. The times have changed and so has the scope of the Steam Remote Play feature.

Also, even five years ago, "in home" could often be expanded via VPN.
