Can I be INCOGNITO?
Setting account to private did not stop others from joining my games even when I was trying to avoid them, so I put it back.

I am a Twitch streamer and have random people wanting to play with me all the time. Because of this I normally have a large friends list (recently pruned). Sometimes though, I just want to play without having to be "on".

There should be an option to be incognito when purchasing or playing sometimes so that your friends can see you online and message you but not see what you are purchasing, playing or join the game(s) you are playing.

Before you ask, I DO NOT have any embarrassing games, nor am I thinking of buying anything that could be construed as embarrassing.

Make your library private, no one can see what you're playing.

How do I do that?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I am kind of upset about Steam divulging my personal purchases and other game activities to third-parties (including friends on steam) in a manner that identifies me as the purchaser, without my consent or knowledge.

So you've been on steam for 2 years and only today this now is a 'problem'

not to mention that you already expliclity set your profile to public since the default for all users now is basically to not who your games on your profile. Ergo you are complaining about a 'privacy' feature that you expliclty had to enable and you're not complaining that the privacy feature you enabled was done 'without your consent'

Maybe we have different definitions of 'without your consent' but your public profle was done so expliclity with your consent.

The fact that Steam would be advertising my purchases and/or game activity (what I am playing), is not mentioned in the Steam Subscriber Agreement, or the Privacy Policy Agreement, not even in passing, indirectly, and most certainly not explicitly.

Again lets go over the fact that your profile has been public for 2 years+ and that your current state of your profile was done with you expliclity saying it was ok. You cant complain about a feature when you expliclity enable it.

This means that as a Steam user, I never agreed to this, not even inadvertently. Which in turn means that I have a legitimate privacy complaint.

You agreed to this already. You had to. You not remembering or lying about it, is not relevant.

Setting account to private did not stop others from joining my games even when I was trying to avoid them, so I put it back.

Your privacy settings do not include things like joining game. That's not covered by any privacy measure.

I am a Twitch streamer and have random people wanting to play with me all the time. Because of this I normally have a large friends list (recently pruned). Sometimes though, I just want to play without having to be "on".

And this is a problem now 'how' exactly. Again your adcount is 2 years old, which means this problem si not 'new'.

You seem to be making up problems as if they're somehow unique to the new privacy settings. If you were going to complain about literally everything in your post, it was a 'problem' 2+ years ago. Why are you suddenly complaining about it now.

Perhaps because I needed help. Ranting at my post is not helping.

Try being like:

He helped me in 10 seconds flat and didn't slam me for it. You put a lot of thought and effort into making me look bad so thanks for that.

Have a great day!

If you're going to 'rant' about something that is based 100% on essentially false information, false premises, and the fact that you are complainng about things that have existed for years but you are now 'raging' about it?

If you don't want people to rip apart your incredibly poorly thought out rants based on basically lies and misinformation, please feel free to make a blog and disable comments. but others are free to point out that your 'faux rage' is misplace, misguided, and wrong.

I amended my post to cater to your sensibilities and just left the question. Hope that makes you feel better.

BTW I in no way lied or misinformed anyone, I told the 100% truth. Neither the Steam Subscriber Agreement, and/or the Privacy Policy Agreement mention the fact that your purchases and game activity will be advertised to other steam users.

So for "NEW" users, please take the advice of:

Because apparently not realizing your game purchases were being advertised to other steam users and worrying about it with a 2 year old account is basis for a smack-down by some users.
