it was fine with windows 7, for awhile i found ways to disable things in windows 10 which made my gaming just fine, but they forced updates through windows 10 and my pc just crashes over and over, ive tried everything , googled for days and found forums that windows 10 isnt working well with 3rd party gaming applications, guess microsoft wants people to buy there games through the windows store and use there apps etc......

There's nothing wrong with Win 10 and Steam games. M$ recently released the May update, have you reinstalled all your drivers?

Im not surprised you're having problems tbh, youre running an extremely old gpu.

Switching to only Linux will SEVERELY limit the functionality of your computer and the games available to you. Not only will you have to learn a new OS, but it's incompatible with just, like, so many programs.

Try dual-booting with SteamOS and see if you can play games with that that crashed your system with Windows. That, at least, will help determine if you've got malfunctioning hardware.

The prevailing wisdom, and my advice, is that your goal should be to get your computer working right with Windows.

- Linux is nice for niche cases when you have to do something Windows can't (we use an Ubuntu bootable USB drive at my IT company sometimes when customer computers are acting too weird to fix with a Windows solution or repair disk).

- Windows is nice for people who want their computers to do as many things as possible.

Your GPU is really too old to be reliable or even adequate for all but the most modest/old games. Replace it ASAP. If you can't, monitor the temps with something like PrecisionX. It could just be overheating. Consider cleaning the heatsink with compressed air and maybe even reapplying the thermal compund. Plenty of instructional videos on YouTube for that.

Also, make sure your CPU isn't overheating. Use something like CoreTemp to monitor the temp. The solution to your problem could be as simple as replacing the heatsink and/or reapplying thermal compound.

EDIT: You report only certain games cause crashes. That probably wouldn't be explained by overheating, of course, unless they're the only demanding ones you play.

I still recommend you do the above heat maintenance on your system.

i get a windows error, and the blue screen of death etc, mainly after like 8 mins of game play etc, ive read many older forums of people with the same exact issue, its been unresolved for them still till this day., even the steam says the same thing about microsoft , making it difficult for gamers , forcing gamers to the xbox live deal, Ill try the steam operating system , besides its free, i can always reformat again etc

i mainly play tf2 on steam alot, and plants vs zombies, neither one of them games are demanding in power, i had no problems playing mass effect andromeda either, i meet all the requirements, but maybe my nvidia 500 series is to weak?but why why was it rocking 2 months or so ago, i feel this has to do with windows 10 updates etc, im gonna try me a new operating system, a free one. I really dont care for windows 10 anyways, got nothing to lose
