steam says i own the game but cant install??

trying to activate my old skyrim with just the cd key and my new pc does not have a cd drive
it says this account owns the game already but when I click next I get the error failed to install connection timed out, I have tried to swap download region as some said that might fix it but didnt work for me, im really not sure what to do.

also my library displays no games that I've played but uninstalled yet the steam system tray shows them and I can reinstall them from there yet Skyrim is not there :(

If you set your profile to public and we could see your game list, that would probably help figure out what's going on...

that is kind of odd, if it shows up on your "owned" game list you SHOULD be able to install it. However, what version of the game is it? because it's possible that there's no longer a specific link to that version if it's older or doesn't include the updates / dlcs.

So it's down to download troubleshooting. First, start your Windows in safe mode (for obvious reasons with networking). See if you can download then. Also, check out that mystical place they call Steam support.

yeh its old I got the game when it first came out and that's probably the issue, I think the last time I tried to reinstall it I might have had the same issue but I had a cd rom on my old pc so I just installed with the cd.
cd's in 2018 lol...

damn I hate using steam to run games through I always have issues with steam and steam only, I got a new pc and all my games from blizzard were saved and was an easy reinstall but not steam!! now I want to buy a new game that only runs with steam but I'm reluctant only because steam has been a terrible program for me to use not only because of this issue but other things too.

There should be no issues with the games you want to play or buy.

I don't see Skyrim listed on the games owned on the account you are posting from.. is it possible you may have made a second account at some point and its linked to that account?

this is my only account the issue is i removed it from my steam but i own the game on disc and steam wont let me install from disc anymore.
