This sucks. it SUCKS. HOW COULD YOU PUT THIS TO DEFAULT?? I've been doing giveaways for a while now, and I always check that people don't own the game before I give them the key they have won. This stops this. I have no desire to become steam friends with everyone I give keys away to and I give a lot of keys away, and explaining to people how they turn this setting off is just too much hassle. This SUCKS. HEAR ME VALVE, THIS SUCKS!
I think this has to do with weebs that can't come to terms (even with themselves) that they are weebs and are embarrassed that their most played game is Sakura Dungeon or some other similar garbage.

So you can't do giveaways now because you would have to friend someone before giving them a game key?

And before the update...how would you message them with the key...if you weren't their friend?

Hmmmm...

you could check if they owned the game prior to even adding them to become friends... why are people in this post trying to be so dense and not seeming to lack common sense..

When you make a drawing for the game, just specify that it's for people who don't already own it. If SomeGuy wins the drawing then you friend him to send the key, when you friend him you see his game list, if he owns the game you tell him "Nope!" and then re-draw another winner.

Wow, I figured it out. You're welcome!

So this does not "STOP" people from being able to give away games as anjir4 claimed.

why waste all that time.. to

A) invite guy and wait for him to accept your invite.
B) Check his games list and see he owns it.
C) repeat the process all over again..

You should be able to

A) check if they own it.. yes... then re-roll someone else..

Again, like I stated when you make the drawing for a game, specify that it is only for people who don't own the game already. If your group isn't full of idiots, then it shouldn't be a problem. I've run game giveaways before. I had no issues with people not following the rules of the giveaway.

most people are idiots..
And this thread demonstrates that wonderfully.

It's probably this honestly, Steam likes making money off these games but they know the weebs hate themselves and don't want others to see that they literally spend money to jerk off to sexy cartoon girls lol.

Whatever, it was nice being able to tell people with no lives or those using alts but not anymore.
people afraid others will know what cheesy, cartoon porno game they play is funny to me..

I'm pretty sure people play the games they like, and have a good time, they just don't need the hate from other users about what ever they play.
People like you are one of the reasons that this privacy-option has been requested so much as i has.

No it should not, don't be so nosy.

Well, most people don't know that this update hit, so that if they wanted the profile to be open they wouldn't know. It happened to me, I didn't know about it and I wanted my games to be shown. If it isn't set on public as default at least show a message saying it is private.
