I can't look at m rated games anymore
Hi! So i'm 16 years old and i'm pretty honest about my age so i chose my real age when i first made a steam account. I bought CSGO about a year ago and bought Far Cry 5 on my 16th birthday, both of which i got on steam and are 18+ games. A few of my real life friends are playing Warframe, an 18+ free to play game and i got interested in it. So i check the store page, it asks me to put in my age (which usually doesn't happen) and i do. Obviously i choose my real age since what would the point be to lie when i have already chosen an age? Guess what? I can't view the game because of my age! I would understand if it was a premium game and you had to have enough steam wallet money on your account to buy it, but this game was free! My birthday was last month so it couldn't have been an older change. Why has this suddenly happened? Could i have accidentally pressed some option to activate a family setting where underage people can't buy any m-rated games?

ok so , you're saying you are an honest guy ,
you're 16
why are you even asking why you cant look at 18+ games ?
you're 16 , not 18
you lie about your age to buy 18+ games
you arent an honest guy
Well age ratings are stuuuuipid. I do whatever i want with my cash, and games are mot the same as booze and tobbaco.
Then you have to take on whoever is responsible for age ratings in your country (pretty hard for a minor, I admit). Steams responsibility is it to 'enforce' these age ratings, even if the methods are far from perfect (or good).

Please accept my apology for the 'daft' part. I posted under a bit of stress I just got news that very close to my hometown, in the city I went to the university people got killed and hurt in an act of violence and I didn't know if those I know and care for that live there were OK and realize that was uncalled for.
It's ok
Thank you.

I usually buy only wallet cards which can be used for anything, so they don't have age restriction.

Wallet cards are only a means to buy games in store, just like a credit card, paypal or cash in a physical store. They have nothing to do with age restrictions on games.

You can buy stuff on the steam market so it's not just for buying games

ok , so why ask ?
I just think that age rating is not a viable option. I grew up watching violent movies like indiana jones and such, and they are far more gory than all the games i've ever played combined. Swear words i hear every day and i say them too. Yeah, i don't see any of my friends getting blown to oblivion by RPGs every day or burned to crisps my molotovs like in video games, but still. Let's also remember that some games like Cod Ghosts are 16+ here in europe, and you can get eaten alive by sharks in one mission.

It's just a legal requirement that Steam must have.

but it's all really moot , you dont follow the rules ,
you say you do what you want ,
shouldnt your thread really be
"i'm 16 and i do what i want , rules dont apply to me "

everything you posted in this post here , has nothing to do with anything ,
your original post was
i'm 16 , i'm honest , why cant i look at 18+ content ?
the answer is so obvious , your 16 .
but you can and do , you do as you want , rules dont apply to you .
so why the post ?

Because i couldn't access the store page of the game, but now i can. All i had to do was to do was lie about my age, even though my real age was already on the account. Sounds pretty broken to me, just saying. Isn't that encouraging people to lie? Either that or steam doesn't remember my age.

Steam won't 'remember' your age, what you write on your profile is meaningless to the moment you press onto the store page for a game.

In my country, the PEGI rating of a game (15, 18) is a LEGAL thing, you are legally not allowed to sell items to people under the age the game is stating. In Sweden they don't have the legal side of it, but it is still a recommendation.

The age gate is there to remove any blame to Valve for people accessing/purchasing their items, the same way that you could technically show fake ID in a real shop.

It's not there to get you to lie, it's there to get you to tell the truth when the material is not accessible for someone your age. That's the end result of the gate itself.

There isn't any way to get your REAL age verified, this is the only way that they can not get sued to high heaven as people state they are over the age they need to be.
pike 8/abr./2018 às 10:55
nothings broken , life is all about choices , the choices you make .
you chose to lie . that's you .
and you dont see that ,
you're not being encouraged to lie , you're choosing to .
remember , you do what you want , rules dont apply to you .
dont expect rules to be changed to suit your wants ,
you get to chose to follow rules or break them , when you get older you'll understand what i'm saying .
right now you dont want to be responsible for your choices .

steam doesnt set the games age restriction , that's ,what's it called the esrb ,
steam doesnt care what you choose to do , steam isnt your mom , they are required to put up the age barrier ,
it's your choice to be honest or not .
your a minor , it's your parents choice to restrict your account content
see it's all on you in the end

You can buy stuff on the steam market so it's not just for buying games
Seriously? It doesn't change what I was getting at, but by all means:

Yeah, whenever anything asks for your age just set yourself up as an adult. Cuz if there asking it's usually because there legally obligated to, they don't actually care how old you are.
