Steam layout on maximised freezes after windows background shuffle
Hello All,

I have an issue with steam Layout which I could use someone's insight into solving, my issue stemmed after the update 2-3 weeks ago, whereby whenever my desktop background shuffles “Auto 5 min change”, my steam layout if on maximize - shifts by a couple of pixels “Left and Top” and the layout freezes while functionality is still present. -symptoms will explain further.

Now, in order to provide clarity… I Own or have and been using duel monitors for quite a while now, this issue just happened recently so I could directly rollout a lot of things in term of hardware and software, as I logged this issue exactly happening the moment steam restarted after the update as a bug that will be fixed in the upcoming updates “as at the time it’s just an annoyance really and it does not affect steam functionality”.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The symptoms of the problem are as follow:

•When steam is on maximized window, it shifts by a couple of pixels Left and Top whenever my windows changes a background. -Tested on both Monitors, results are the same.

•This issue happens if the windows background shifts/changes manually or automatically. -As part of a theme.

•Steam layout will freeze but if it keeps on functioning, meaning if I click on the friend’s layout on the bottom right, it will pop up, meaning it is functioning but the layout froze.–This is true for all steam store functionality, game listings, navigation and all hubs are active and clickable but I have to minimize to see the affects.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone have faced similar problems, please do not hesitate to commune in this thread, any and all advice are welcomed.

The problem is triggered when Windows tries to notify the Steam window that it should change its color, and background cycling causes it to change automatically. Kind of sucks to disable it because I really like this function, but it's the closest thing to a workaround I've found so far. I'll look into it a bit more, maybe there's a way to make Windows not notify Steam about color changes.

I'm having the same exact problem. Incredibly annoying!

Yeah, It's annoying as hell.

Hopefully someone will shed some light into the issue, as there is limited things that could actually affect steam to behave the way it does presenting this issue.

My Steam window at Maximized is unresponsive after returning to the client window after exiting a game in fullscreen - it will become responsive again after I minimize and restore the client window.

I believe your experiencing the exact problem were facing, the only difference in this case is that you are playing a game and the windows does a background change for your desktop, the moment you exit a game after a while, you’ll directly experience the symptoms.

Yeah it's damn annoying. I should point out this issue only started with recent update around March 21st

I'm not sure if Steam is aware of this issue or not, meanwhile let's be hopeful.

Having a similar issue. No any problem with the window shifting or anything like that, but it visually freezes while retaining functionality. I close and reopen it to fix it. No idea what really causes it I'm afraid, but it seems to happen whatever I'm doing.

It's someone reassuring to see that I'm not the only one having this exact issue. I wasn't aware that background shuffle was the cause, though. In any case, here's to hoping an actual solution comes around.

I'm still hopeful.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Rodrigo, thank you for sharing this fix.

For those who face this problem follow these steps:

1-"Right click" your mouse on the empty space "in desktop" and from the Drop-Down choose "Personalization".
2-On left panel youll find "Colors" click it.
3-Untick the "Automatically pick an accent color from my background" and close the tab.

Now this should fix the issue described above but with disabling a windows function, a temp fix as mentioned by Rodrigo.

Regardless, if there is any updates from Steam in this case, I'll make sure to inform you of the developments if there is a permenant fix.
