8GB RAM is the bare minimum for most new games these days.

And if they have demanding graphics, you need at least a GTX 1050.

First of all, what are "next gen games"? There's no "next gen" to speak of as PCs don't have a clear concept of generations and consoles are still on the current generation without anything next on the horizon. That said, if we apply the term "current games" here, the answer is no. Plain and simple no. Your CPU, while up-to-date, is a weakling optimized for low power consumption and can't deliver, your GPU is a friggin' joke. I am serious, this thing has no right to exist (unless your CPU doesn't have an iGPU, in that case, there's at least a reason for it to exist). Forget about playing any CURRENT GAMES, as others said, stick to older titles. Or indies, 2D games and otherwise non-demanding ones. CURRENT non-demanding games, mind you.

If you're on a laptop, that's your first mistake, it is not a gaming machine to begin with.

Well, there are laptops suitable for demanding modern games. Those are ridiculously expensive though and even more ridiculously unportable. Those things are bloody huge! I own one of them (was a gift from a friend) and let me tell ya, impossible to use them on your lap. Well, gaming happens mostly on the desk anyway and it was quite enjoyable to take that monster to a friend's to have an impromptu LAN party (hey, a laptop, mouse & headset fit nicely into a backpack) but this thing is a pain to use in any other way than stationary( but somewhat easily transportable between locations). No way to use it on the go. It won't fit on a train desk unless I use a huge chunk of those large desks in a 4 seats group so there's no way I'll ever use it to do anything on-the-go. And a desktop PC would have (my old desktop in fact has) more power and is way cheaper( when you actually have to buy them yourself). In other words, gaming laptops are only viable if you really REALLY need to play PC games in different locations and can afford something rather expensive. And if you want to play games on-the-go, the Nintendo Switch is a way better option. Small, compact, fits in a larger jacket pocket, not optimized, rather made from the beginning for mobile gaming (that doesn't suck, that is). Heck, it even saves the exact state of your game when you send it to sleep, just like a phone would. Except that you have proper controls and the games don't mostly suck. Chances are, it won't work as flawlessly on a (gaming) laptop. But then, you wouldn't pull out a laptop in a crowded subway to play something for 20 minutes anyway. Do it daily with the Switch.
