Shared Library & Free Weekend games
Hello,

I'm faced with an issue where I'm unable to play the current free weekend game (This War Of Mine) because it's locked by the shared library. The person whom I share the library with owns the game (and is currently playing a diffrent game) which causes the "lock" to trigger.

Currently, I don't see a way of switching and stating that I wish to launch the Free Weekend version of the game and not my shared library version. The only workaround I see is removing the shared library, which seems like an excessive hastle

Replication Steps

1. Share a library that contains a game which is currently on a free weekend
2. Attempt to download the game/launch the game whilst your shared user is playing
3. Be prompted with the lock screen, stating that you can't play (or download) a game that is shared whilst the friend is in a different (or any) game

Solution
Thanks to mc-Hotsauce

1. Install sfs-select[www.unix-ag.uni-kl.de] & place into steam folder
1.1 Read the "Readme" if you get the MSVCR100.dll error
2. Stop Steam
3. run sfs-select/windows/sfs-select.exe
4. toggle check-boxes / change priority numbers (disable the shared user)
5. click OK
6. start Steam
7. Find the free weekend game, install and run it once (it shouldn't be locked)
8. Repeat from step 2-6 but this you re-enable the shared user library
9. You should now have access to the game & the shared library

"This War of Mine" is not a free weekend game. The developer is giving the game away for free at the moment. ( 4 more days). You will keep the game, even if the 4 days have passed.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Oh, well now the issue is that I've downloaded the game but it doesn't register as my copy of the game & insists that it's shared.

"Celebrating the April 24th debut of Frostpunk, we are launching This War of Mine for free on Steam from now until Sunday, April 8th, 2018!"

Also multiple video game sites reported that the game is free for a few days and that you keep it afterward. Its not the usual "free weekend".

I do not know if this help, but downloaded the game and it is not counted towards gamecount or displayed in owned games. Their post is confusing stating both Free Weekend and that the game is free, but nowhere does it state that its yours forever or after 8/4. Hope it helps some?

And it has a countdown on library.

License page also states "This War of Mine Free Weekend - Apr 2018"

I wonder which of the multiple "videogame" sites we are talking? Because polygon kotaku and other big sites are complete piles of ♥♥♥♥ who know nothing about games nor do they even play them.

The label near Play button on the store page clearly means it's temporary, so you should throw out those websites in a garbage can. Game journalism is dead.
