Refresh/Update screenshot library database...?
When screenshot image files are removed from the folder (not by using the in-Steam "Delete" option), it leaves a "missing file" placeholder in the list when viewing the library through Steam.

Example: http://snaps.vertigofx.com/047/snap_2018-03-04_15.06.30_1458.png

Is there any way to force Steam to refresh or update the entire list so that only existing files are included in the library?

Honestly, the issue isn't worth the trouble of reinstalling steam. I did, however, find a much better solution...

It seems that Steam keeps its record of screenshots in a file called "screenshots.vdf". The path is "/Valve/Steam/userdata/<steamID3>/760/screenshots.vdf". If this file is deleted/renamed, Steam will rebuild the screenshot library (supposedly by scanning the screenshots folders) the next time it starts up, and it no longer includes the missing files.

Sorry to necro, but I couldn't close my browser tab without thanking you. This has solved an issue I've had for YEARS where Steam took forever to save screenshots, to the point it started crashing games. Even Steam support was unable to help with this issue. THANK YOU!

And a thank's from me too. Deleting unwanted screenshots in Steam is so tedious (one at a time) so I'm glad to know how I can safely do it from Windows.

another necro but i JUST had an issue that made steam unable to display any screenshot at all and this seems to have fixed it, thank you!

for anyone else that does this though, you should make sure you DISABLE screenshot notifications BEFORE doing this. you will get a notification for every single screenshot you've ever taken if you don't and that's you know, a little annoying. you can disable notifications during this and just restart again though.
