Steam is uninstalling my games!
Yesterday, my friend was playing Garry's Mod and I wanted to join him, but then I noticed that GMod was missing from my library. When I went to my desktop to open it from there, Steam acted like I had never even downloaded the game that I have over 2,000 hours in. And just this mroning, it uninstalled Elder Scrolls Online, which took me 2 days to download. People have said that the files are still in my computer, but steam had a problem with syncing or something. Does anyone know a solution to this other than just redownloading the game?

The solution is to fix the root cause so Steam wont lose track of tue games in the first place https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8379-RYIP-2998

Thanks. Can I expect this to happen again, since it's happened twice within a day? I looked, and I can't imagine any of the listed programs that would be interfering with Steam.

Depends on what caused it in the first place. Fix the cause and it won't happen again.

If you dont solve the root cause, it will keep on happening forever.
Hint: Conflicting programs arent the only possible cause and the list isnt exactly compoete anyway.

Oh well, then. I'll just have to live with launching games from my file explorer.

You could also troubleshoot the problem. Were in the help & tips forum and we can offer that.

Update: Now I'm having to wait 16 hours to redownload ESO because I followed the directions listed in the link. Even though I could launch the game just fine through my file explorer before. fml

I guess I'll try that. I really don't want to spend another year trying to figure out what the "root cause" is.

So, shall we start troubleshooting?
When did it start to happen?

It started happening yesterday afternoon.
Any thing happening around or before that?
A new tool for example?

I haven't really downloaded anything in a while. The last thing I actually downloaded was BitTorrent, but that was about a week or 2 ago.
