Switch and other controllers (aside from maybe DS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One) would most likely have to be custom configured to work properly as far as the exact Key-Binds and such. Configure a Controllers (yes only ever plug in one controller at a time) and then configure it and then save its config to your Steam Account.
Why do people not buy a Controller that is actually just plug & play on PC; instead of complaining about things that don't work 100% of the time.
I tried different layout for desktop configuration, but nothing work, even if I assign keyboard keys, outside of steam, the controller is completly irresponsive until i close steam.

What OS are you running?
Is Steam Client opt'ed into the Beta, or not?
I'm runing on W10, and i'm not running the beta, ti's since the 17 may patch addin switch pro controller """compatibility""".
I've tried different layouts, and some works on some applications, like up key from a keyboard work for firefox but not retroarch etc... it's a real mess so far.
When pluged with usb it's even worst on other programs, it's pressing all the buttons really fast and going ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this is really anoying.
It's very simple to do. Do you need me to explain how? No there is no uninstall or game wipes involved. However, never "uninstall" Steam.
I also noted that I can't manually reassign keys in the general controller parameters, confirming it's just a bad update that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the layouts.
Go to your Steam folder; delete everything inside, EXCEPT for the following
Steam.exe (application)
DepotCache (folder)
Skins (folder)
SteamApps (folder)
UserData (folder)
#SSFN (hidden files that start with this)
And do not delete anything within these folders. Just what you see in the root Steam folder; the files and folders there.
Also delete everything inside here:
C:\Users\#YourUserName\AppData\Local\Steam
Now right click Steam.exe > click Run As Admin
Steam redownloads the very latest stable branch version and loads up normally.
Once it does, properly Exit Steam Client fully.
Now go to Properties for every single EXE file that is in \Steam and also \Steam\Bin
And disable "full screen optimization" and apply to each.
Now load up Steam, again via the right click > Run As Admin (yes do this every single time you launch ANY game client) Make a Desktop Shortcut so it's easier. Never have game clients in OS Startups.
As we've need that in the past when it came to Controller based issues/changes.
Well, there is better. If configured like a keyboard, like B button is the "V" key from the keyboard, it is now recognized by other programs.
But, If configure my desktop setup like a controller (like a normal controller, like xbox-one for example), it is still not recognized.
I guess I will have to wait for valve to patch it, I'm clueless now :/
