Mac laptop and desktop PC not syncing?
Hi all,

So, to start with Imma just preface this with yes, I have already looked up how to fix this. It isn't working.

The issue only started a little while ago, and I only noticed it because I started fiddling around with the organisation of my games. Then, I bought Keep Talking and began playing it on my Mac. Now when I open it on my PC, it starts up the tutorial as though I haven't played it at all.

So, I have tried opening in offline mode and then restarting in offline mode. I've checked for updates. The in-home streaming still works, it's just that nothing else updates and there doesn't seem to be an easy 'force sync' button. I do have cloud sync enabled, too.

This has been an ongoing issue for the last few weeks and I'm getting really sick of it not working xD Any help would be appreciated!

You should discuss this on the game forum.

Not all games support cross-play game synchronisation. This depends totally on the game and the developer. If the developer chooses not to synchronise games between platforms, that's on them.

Steam can't do anything about this.

It's not just the games, though. I recently categorised my games on my PC, but it *still* hasn't updated on my mac. They're connected to the same internet, literally sit right next to each other. I can play with friends online, so steam is obviously connected. It just refuses to update. It hasn't even updated with the fact that I have bought some new games!

[Edit: I just tried uninstalling and then reinstalling. Nada]

you say you have your icloud enabled, but that doesn't have anything to do with steam.
(unless icloud backs up your steam settings too, and you install icloud application on your desktop pc so you can put icloud settings on a windows pc. and that's still not gonna work because apple would have to 'translate' everything into a windows readable format.)

Don't expect icloud to do sync work on windows machines. game category is stored in local steam settings, i don't think it's a part of steam cloud. And it's definatly not a part of the icloud sync.

Maybe in future all these settings are properly stored in steam cloud and translated for each platform, but right now it's not high priority feature I guess.

Either make a suggestion here ( http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/10/ ) or complain at the game forum if you have a sync issue.

I meant icloud as in the steam cloud settings. And that still doesn't explain the discrepancy between 'you have 171 games in total' on my PC and 'you have 168 games in total' on my Mac.

And please tell me, why would this game have the option of cloud sync if it couldn't actually use it?

Either actually help me or go away. I am not trying to make a suggestion or idea, I am trying to get some help for a problem I'm having.

First it's about syncing between Mac and PC with the game "Keep talking and..", I told you that it's the game developer fault for not implementing proper syncronisation.. Then you tell me there are another issues (wich you failed to mention in your first post), I address these too, you're pointing at "icloud" that has nothing to do with syncing categories. I let you know the current state of syncronisation on steam with their own cloud (wich is mainly used for savegames)

And now you're telling me to go away because I'm not helping?
You realise this is a user forum? You won't get any help from a steam official, and it's not my fault you confuse icloud for steam cloud, or that your original issue was with the category wich you failed to mention in your first post. If you get mad for me failing to understand what you're talking about, maybe take a few steps backwards and reconsider or re-read what i've just told you.

because honestly.. If you truly want the same categories on both devices, you just re-create them by hand. And if you want steam fix the issue, you're in the wrong forum.

It's about more than just that game. Other games include Undertale and Papers Please. I just use KTaNE as an example.

Okay, my issues, from the top:

Steam is not syncing between my Mac and my PC. The games are not up to date - indeed, on my mac it says I have 3 less games than I actually do! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the games, and the steam client itself, to no avail.

I want help in making my steam games update on both devices. You have not helped me. I've said three times that the games I own aren't updating, and now the saves in several games also aren't updating, where they have done so previously. Stop telling me to make a thread on the suggestions and ideas because that's not what I want to do. I want help with the issue that I have.
