No, you can't get hacked just because someone sent you a message.
Your account/computer can get compromised if you click on a link they send you.

The mobile authenticator can not be used as Proof of Ownership.
It will limit their ability to damage your account since they would need the code generated by it if they attempt to log in, or they would need to access your device in order to confirm the trade if they try to steal your account.

and they would need the device to get in to the account?

Assuming you don't give them any of the log-in codes, have the authenticator running on an emulator installed on the computer or they also compromise your mobile device.
ok then, thanks for the help!

im just getting really paranoid over nothing!

If you have your mobile authenticator setup, they would literally need your phone. So you should have nothing to worry about concerning your account being compromised.

But regardless, be careful with links sent as they can still lead to other problems if they are malicious. e.g. having your e-mail compromised.
Thanks for the information, what i have learnt so far is:

1. dont friend random people unless you know what the risks are
2. people cant get control of your account of you have authenticator (unless you click on a malicious link
3.dont accept voice calls from strangers from the risk of getting your IP stolen
4. mobile auth cannot be used as proof if your account is stolen but it helps prevent it

Apparently I sent a csgo ad to my entire friends list even though I did not send it I already changed my password and contacted steam support I don’t know if it happened again but I just need some advice because I’m super paranoid right now as I’m typing this

Logged into a fake login screen on a CS:GO site.

Also deauthorize all devices here https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

That is just to deauthorize the other device used to hijack your account.
