Is there a way to clear the notifications tab?

I wanted to know if there was a way to clear out notifications, specifically, unread chat messages.
A user sent me a message while I was offline and at some point unfriended me before I got back on, and now the notifications tab is always green saying theres an unread chat message, but I can't open the message more than 1 time (after starting steam), and even if I open the message it wont make the notification go away. I tried blocking the user in question, but that didn't help. Now I can't view the message, and the notifications tab is still telling me there's an unread message. Please, tell me if there is a way to clear it or if it auto-clears after a set time.

Yeah, I'm not clicking any links. It'd be great if someone could give more information. Or if a valve employee or fourm moderator or something official answered.

That is the Steam chat link.

If you don't want to trust it, then deal with the notification forever.

Let's you access the chat message so you can make it go away.

So, It wont like, remove my friends or anything, will it? I assume it will allow me to delete the specific chat message.

It will let you see the chat window and close it.
