My steam is downloading something invisible.

its downloading nothing. its just constantly downloading the game i want to download is in queue and i cant move it up or pause the invisible one. this is the second time THIS WEEK this has happened. what is going on? making me regret steam

What if you hover the mouse over the steam icon to the lower right? might show the name of the thing?

EDIT: Try the "Reinstall Steam" as it says here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2274-IFLV-5334
If that doesn't work then try the other basic things.

thank you it showed me what it is. what causes it to go invisible? can multiple updates be invisible?

You could check the beta forum, that's where valve checks for bugs probably.
