"Steam streaming microphone" has replaced my mic and now unusable.
Was playing a match with my friend on counterstrike when half way through he said he couldnt hear me in game, nor on discord. I open my properties and devices to find my microphone (Blue snowball) was no longer present and had been swapped to "Steam Streaming microphone" which doesnt work or do anything, so now I can't talk to anyone online because of whatever this stupid thing is.

Any help would be great

Set your actual microphone as the default audio input device.

My actual microphone doesn't appear in the options. Like I said, this steam streaming microphone has replaced/deleted my actual microphone.

Is that an analog microphone plugged into your sound card or one with an own sound chip? What options are you looking at?

It is just a USB microphone plugged into my PC. The options are my headset Microphone (which I cant use as is broken) My Oculus Rift microphone, virtual audio line and steam streaming microphone (which was never a thing until this problem happened)

They are all the same as the ones I listed. It seems it might be a problem that has stemmed from my Steam Link. Thats the only reason I can think of which would be why there is a "steam streaming microphone"

If you dont want to tell me, ill just assume youre looking at Windows' audio options.

Is your microphone stll listed in the device manager?

I am looking at windows audio options. Discord and teamspeak audio options are exactly the same. Its not listed in device manager anymore, I checked the properties on "steam streaming microphone" It says It was created at the time my actual mic stopped working and it also says "device migrated" when it stopped working, which im assuming is someone to do with why its not listed anymore in device manager

Then unplug it and plug it into another USB port. That should trigger a new device installation.

Tried it, didn't do anything, the mics light is on so I know that it works. I'm so mad that this has happened.

Ok, next idea. Unplug the USB microphone, uninstall the Steam streaming microphone in the device manager, plug in the USB microphone back in.

Bit of progress, I uninstalled steam and have managed to remove the devices in the device manager without then re installing themselves. Now I'm just trying to get my PC to recognise the microphone. Looking online to see if there is a possible driver I could download for it. Thank you for the ongoing help

Update 2: I have now got my microphone recognised again on my PC and my problem appears to be fixed. Thank you for the constant suggestions, I really appreciate it!

I'm glad you got it!

i have uninstalled and reinstalled my microphone, as well as uninstalled steam streaming microphone, yet steam still detects streaming as my mic. it works in discord and other things, just not any game i open with steam. should i uninstall and reinstall steam itself?
