Activating Non Steam Games Question
Hey Everyone, how’s it going?
Quick question. If I have a game obtained from methods other than the steam shop, can I activate it in steam in such a manner that I can earn achievements for them? I have been getting more serious about games and I wanted to get This War of Mine recently and I now have it through Twitch (Twitch prime reward) but I don’t want to have their launcher and I don’t believe they have any form of achievement recording and such.

No, that is not possible. The only thing you can do with non Steam games is add a shortcut for them to your Steam Library to start them. You neither get achievements, trading cards or playtime recording.
If you want all the Steam features you need to buy the Steam version.

Games purchased from other shops besides the Steam storefront CAN be activated on Steam, but they MUST come with a Steam key in order to do so. If you already have This War of Mine activated through another client then no, you can not activate it on Steam, unless the game also came with a Steam key. So make sure to check to see if it came with one. Some stores will offer a DRM free version and a Steam key (e.g. Humble Bundle). Not sure about Twitch.

You may be able to launch it via steam though, by clicking "games" up top between "Friends" and "Help" and selecting "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library..." and then finding the application you wish to add. This will however not give you any Steam achievements.
