Why download speed so slow?
Not sure if this is the right subforum to post this, but here goes. I've recently moved from Maine to Missouri. In Maine, I had pretty good internet and would get anywhere from 800 KB to 2 MB per second when dowloading/updating games. Here in Missouri, I'm in a rural area, so the internet isn't as good, but still pretty good. I can easily play muliplayer and MMO games with only slight lag every once in a while. But since moving here, downloading games has been awful. It bounces from 600 KB down to 100 or less and back up. Just wondering if there's anything to help increase speed. It's been stabilizing about 500-600 KB right now. It's not that bad when updating games, because that doesn't take too long, but I'm trying to download a 20 GB game, and it's taking forever. Any help would be appreciated. I've changed my download region and that seemed to help a little, bu not much.

Besides trying other Steam Download Servers or getting a better ISP with better pings/speeds; then no not really.

Sounds like an issue of locality to me. Missouri isn't a wealthy state and unfortunately rural areas in America have been completely neglected for at least the last 60 years. 500 KB/s is about all you can expect, there are people much worse off than that.

Man, I'm from india.I jusrt purchased rainbow six,its been 24 hours i am downloading this game.Before 15 mins i just changed my download server to-Northwest africa.BELIEVE ME!!! i am getting 6.2 MB/s.Just try it...playing in 40 min.

I don't really mind the 500-600 KB a second. Its when it drops all the way down to less than 100 KB thats really annoying. I finally downloaded my game, had it updating all night and it finished 6 am, about 10 or so hours later. @ashwin, I might try your suggestion next time I need to download something or have a big update. Thanks for responding, guys!

If download is slow, change Download-region, it works wonders.
