HDD emits a squeaky noise and freezes my PC
It started to happen when i installed a new ram stick
Hard drive just does a squeaky sound (not clicking) and all of the PC processes freeze except for the mouse. Then its 50/50 that my PC will stay freezed for 30-90 secs then unfreeze and work normally or it will completely freeze with looped buzzing sound in the speakers and only way is to restart the PC.
Sometimes when that happens it won't restart because when i turn my PC on it will constantly squeak and nothing happens until i get inside the computer and shake the HDD a bit, then its working again.
It tends to be happening at very important times like in the middle of a CSGO match or GTA Online mission. Never happened on "disk-consuming" situations like installing or moving something. Rarely on "mostly disk-idle" situations like browser surfing or looking through folders.

Does that mean my HDD is going to die soon or its just something wrong with other parts of PC, i don't know. Anybody help me with that problem?

Sounds like the problem is with the HDD. Backup all important files now, just to stay safe. Make sure all you components are fitted securely.

I would strongly recommend removing that drive, get any data off of it that you need, and put a new one in.

Have you done a scan disk or disk check at all?

I mean, "shaking it" is ... um, indicative that there's probably a screw loose - which can kill a drive, but also can be fixed. Unless it gets too damaged...

Also, consider purchasing an SSD over a HDD if your budget allows.

What does the disk scan do and how do i do it?

and by "shaking" i meant like sliding it off the place where hdd stands and sliding it back and checking that all the wires are connected to it

just read that the disk checking MIGHT mess up something and make some files inaccessable. that really spooks me. is it really worth doing?

any time your disk 'makes noises' you should assume

1) its going to die like RIGHT NOW
2) You shoudl move all data you value, pictures, movies, music, etc RIGHT NOW

Then you can run scans. Dont run scans before you move all your data off. Because if the scan borkes the drive you are 100% SOL.

As with any other time, before upgrading or doing changes, back up first.

its just the recent thing that it shuts down whenever it wants to.

And that's not a good sign. Backup all your important files and make sure Steam Cloud is enabled. You don't want to lose any files!
