Problems with ps4 controller connection to PC
I'd appreciate any help with this. After months of no problems using my ps4 controller through a usb cable, it suddenly began to disconnect mid game at multiple times. After trying things out, I've found that holding the controller vertically keeps it working a bit longer but I'm not sure. I've tried another cable and another controller but both had the same problem. It's extremely annoying and I can't tell whether it's the cable, my controller or my computer that's the problem. Again any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Are you using DS4Windows?

Edit: If you are then delete the config files (usually in %appdata%/DS4Windows) and setup the controller again. It might also be worth going into Power & Sleep Settings and setting the power management profile to 'High Performance'.
No I've just been using the steam big picture settings to use the controller. I tried using ds4windows as a solution to the problem but I get the same problem of the controller being disconnected from my pc's devices when I try.

Sounds to me like it's either the USB Cable or the Controller; in terms of the usb port on the controller; which is either physically damaged, or the cable you are trying to use simply does not fit very snug on the connector on the Controller-side.

That's what I initially thought, so I tried swapping both controller and usb cable, yet I got the same issue.

I really aren't sure what's causing the problem but if this was happening with my controller, I'd suspect a USB conflict or a problem with the USB hub drivers. If the same thing happens with another controller and cable, then at the very least, it's a problem with the computer.

So, I would start troubleshooting by unplugging every non-essential USB device - everything except the keyboard and mouse. Does the problem still happen? If not, gradually plugging in the other devices might help you figure out which device has the conflict. Uninstalling the software and drivers for that device, then reinstalling may allow both devices to live in harmony again.

If the USB hub drivers are the problem, then visiting the computer (or motherboard) manufacturer's website may provide more recent drivers that solve the problem.

I mentioned Power Management settings because they can cause USB ports to go asleep after a set period of inactivity. Switching to a High Performance profile would completely eliminate that issue.
So another device I use is causing the problem? I tested whether the usb port is the problem by connecting my phone with the same cables in the same port and it worked fine, my pc connected to my phone and there was no problem there as far as I know.
