Just re-installed my operating system, is there a way to point my new Steam install at my old library?
Hi,

I've re-installed Steam onto a fresh operating system, but I had my Steam Library on another drive.

Is there anyway I can point Steam towards that folder so all of my games will be ready to play, and all of my saves/configs will still work?

Thanks

Pro tip: Keep Steam & the games together. This way, youll save yourself loads of trouble.

Install Steam to that other drive. Close Steam, move the library into the new Steam folder (proper subfolder OFC) and start Steam. With some luck, itll recognize the games just so. Othereose, start installing & Steam should discover the existing files.

As for saves, maybe not. Many games keep their stuff in %userpeofile% and if you wiped that (and the game in question doesnt use Steam cloud), youve wioed it for good.

Pro tip: Keep steam folder on different drive than your OS. And keep Steam (the application) just like all others -- on drive where your OS. When you reinstall OS, you need to reinstall all applications anyway.

The Steam library folder can be set to any location. Just point newly installed Steam to your old Steam Library folder; check this screenshot -- https://images.techhive.com/images/article/2014/03/choose-steam-library-folder-100251443-orig.png

No. First, you dont need to reinstall Steam when reinstalling the OS. Second, theres no advantage at all in doimng what you suggest, but theres that disadvantage of having to make Steam clear theres games installed. Keeping the Steam folder outside and the games inside the Steam folder has the neat advantage that aftet wiping the OS, all you need to do is start Steam. No further steps required.
