I just checked and I am indeed running on 32 bits. (I am running Wondows 7 btw).
But shouldn't there be an install button anyway? there's not even a greyed-out install-button. Or does Steam detect in advance that the game won't run so it won't let you install it?
And I am not a computersavvy guy but I think I need to re-install my entire OS to go to 64 bits right?
Yes, Steam can detect if you are running a 32 or 64Bit OS and yes, if a game is marked as a 64Bit only game, Steam will not let you waste time and bandwidth to download a game you can't possibly run.
Also yes, you need to install a 64 Bit version of Windows. You can not convert your current 32Bit version to a 64Bit one.
That you are still running a 32Bit OS makes me wonder if your hardware is even capable of running the game.
What are the system specs of your PC, it's possible a 64Bit upgrade is pointless for the hardware you have. Let's check that first before you invest potentially hours of work into getting everything up and running.
Correct.
My PC is indeed a number of years old (5 I think).
I have a AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor 3.20 GHz with 4 GB RAM and am using a SSD harddrive.
And I have an ATI Radeon HD 4800 series videocard in it.
I assumed this was enough to handle Two Point Hospital. Was I wrong and do I need a faster computer? Or can I start planning a complete reinstall :)
Minimum:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i3 6100 or AMD FX-4350
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce GT 1030, 2GB (Legacy: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460), AMD RX550, 2GB (Legacy: AMD Radeon HD 6850), Integrated: Intel HD Graphics 630
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 6 GB available space
And i would get a new computer, it is showing its age.
Read the support article on How To Request A Refund (Link) on Two Point Hospital

Thank you so much Cathulhu and Theblaze (and Hodman).
At least I now know what the problem is and why I can't install the game.
You spared me lots of time and frustration!
I now also know that what I thought was still a good and fast computer is actually a rusty old piece of equipment that can handle old games only, lol.
And also thanks for the refund links!
Much obliged.
The CPU is about 9 years old.
Hope you didn't pay much for that. You can build a rather cheap PC beating that setup with ease.
The image of my computer being fast has lingered more in my head for all these years than apparently in actual reality.
I will put buying a new computer on my to-do-list. :)
Thanks.
Otherwise, shouldnt your cpu support 64 bit? Why did you run it with 32 bit windows?
Good games tell you what you need for full resolution and normal settings.
They run on 1280x720 resolution below specs. (If there is no serious missing feature)
But i see no reason to let someone not so techsavvy doing that if the sole purpose is to get a game running, which won't run properly on his PC.
I have a computer with a similar CPU, a lot more RAM and a vastly better GPU and the game chugs rather heavily.
He might actually be able to run 2 point hospital on that rig of his. The developers smartly highballed the req. I was able to run it on my rig and my cpu is a c2d even older than his. He'd also bea ble to run windows 7 64 no problem.
This was something MS and quite a few retailers did. They would generally not properly disclose the version of windows 7.
And last I check steam didn't ac tually hid the install button if your system didn't mean the os requirements. The installer will pop up an error message but it will still show the button. Maybe its a region lock thing.
