"Login To Steam Failed"
I was in the middle of a game and I suddenly got a popup telling me to re-login to Steam. So I did that and the following popup appeared:

"Login to Steam failed.
Either the specified account does not exist, or the password was wrong.
Please check your account name and password and try again."

So I re-entered my username and password as requested and I got the same error again. My username and password are confirmed correct as I just used the details to log into Steam in my browser. Internet is fine and nothing is blocking the connection to the Steam network (dns, firewall, router, etc...). How can I fix this or is Valve just being incompetent?

EDIT: Forgot to add: this is reoccurring. Probably happens 2/3 times per week. I know closing the game and restarting Steam will make it temporarily go away but I am looking for a more permanent fix.

are you on wifi and someone got your login information if you dont have own sequrity at own router, its a best guess, or missing bandwide on wifi so negociations never complete correctly.

try cable rj-45 if not already done so. maybe check lines for lost packets from you to steam.exe

tracert and ping. or other network troubleshooting apps

Nobody has my login information (I use Steam Authenticator on my mobile phone). Nobody else has access to my PC phone or network. I am also using a 3 metre Cat 7 wire directly to my router. Ports have been opened both on router and PC, both router and PC are also using CloudFlare DNS server (1.1.1.1). The status on my router all seems fine... I've had a bot running on a free AWS server boosting my stats on my account since the start of the year, could it be an issue/conflict caused by that?

April 16th, the day you originally posted this, was a Tuesday. Steam maintenance happens every Tuesday around 3-5pm Pacific Time. EVERYONE gets kicked off.

This is why you never got a response...because no one could. By the time it was noticed, it was probably buried in a heap of the same type of threads from others that are not aware of this.

This has been happening for years.

Also, I don't believe the 2/3 time per week thing...that sounds like embellishment to me

If you truly don't believe me then you are wasting everyone's time here by commenting. It literally popped up again just 5 mins ago. Does Steam also do maintenance every Thursday?

That's not normal behaviour. Have you tried reinstalling Steam?

Edit: but do move the common folder and the appmanifests, so you don't have to redownload every game.

I've done a fresh install of Windows 10 since the original post (also formatted all drives).

Are you saving your credentials so you don't have to type them in everytime? And if so, have you, perhaps, changed your password before this started to happen?

Usually I'd expect that the login credentials weren't saved correctly. But seeing as you completely reinstalled Windows. Did you also reinstall Steam or did you move folders from a previous installation?

Credentials are saved, I haven't changed my password in years, completely fresh install of Windows 10 with everything wiped (only windows 10 synced settings carried over) followed by a clean install of all programs, drivers, steam, etc. I do use Steam Cloud sync, but I can't see how that would be an issue because I am pretty sure that only affects game saves and a few other game files (not Steam itself).

Only other thing I can imagine is a program interfering with Steam. Do you use any AV programs? They are known to interfere with Steam sometimes.

Same problem here. I can login into the web site for Steam. But my steam app on my PC, and the Steam app on my phone (just installed), NO GO.
