Thats kind of the point of Steam existing isn't it?
Complain to the game devs that use their own launcher.
Why do you have multi GPUs but not use the main?
GOG was created by the most consumer friendly developers alive. They also created the Witcher game series and currently building Cyberpunk 2077.
Without a middleman of some kind, how do you expect to get games?
Imagine having 500 games without a middleman? Want a update? Gotta track down the developers website for it. Want support? Gotta track down a support page after tracking down a developers website...
Steam and GOG offer updates for all your games, support for all your games and a huge community who can help you with questions... Why would you settle for anything less then Steam or GOG is beyond me... When you use a middleman, its all in one spot.
If you have 2 GPU's, you should be running them in SLI or NV-Link depending on the cards being used unless you have the second card dedicated to something else like for example video editing, video encoding for streaming or recording.
Even if you have a secondary thats dedicated to something else, anything thats display related like a monitor or a VR headset would to my knowledge be plugged into your main card.
If you have a system with 2 cards then one would assume you would have a pretty decent CPU to go with them. So steam should not be hogging that much of your resources to be causing lag in your games if you have a system thats not a potato so something else is causing it and not steam...
Ran Raceroom a long time ago without steam and worked flawlessly. Now, cant get it to recognize the same controllers etc. But I imaging their latest updated helped cause that issue and not steam right?
If you want DRM free games which don't require a launcher buy on GoG. GoG will just give you a setup for the game which can be used without restrictions.
You blame it all on Steam yet you are the one making mistakes here. Connect all screens to the GPU. No it will not make any difference in performance. When connecting everything in weird ways like this then you will indeed run in to issues such as games not running on the correct GPU and what not.
Steam (Top left of the Steam window) > Settings > Controller
Make sure that stuff is all disabled. But I doubt this is the issue.
The controller not being detected is most likely an issue of either Windows or the game.
- Make sure Windows sees the controller and that it is connected without any issues, you can check this in the device manager.
- If the controller requires drivers make sure they are installed and working.
PC gaming has very much become a digital commodity (mostly) so software middlemen like Steam are kind of a necessary evil. I find it necessary to purchase from multiple marketplaces so I use Steam, GOG and Epic.
I use Steam, but I don't respect Valve or their support so every time I buy a title on here I pray nothing goes wrong. It aggravates me you have to go through a selection of predefined responses to get to a point where you are presented with a form where you can actually write up a ticket. If you can't find a selection relevant to your issue then oh boy... you will most likely end up in a FAQ with the most common causes for similar issues as if you're doing something wrong... or you're just redirected to contact the developer even though they aren't the ones who can resolve your problem. I honestly believe Steam has it set up this way to discourage you from contacting support.
GOG is great, but it doesn't have access to a lot of titles Steam does and some developers make Steam exclusives. However, GOG has superior support and they don't make it damn near impossible to get in touch with their support team unlike Steam. GOG has this great little "Contact Us" link in the event you have an issue with its own unique set of circumstances you can still send a general support ticket and they will respond.
I haven't had an issue on Epic, yet, so I can't vouch for their support staff, but I'm willing to bet even they beat out Steam in taking care of their customers.
