DirectX 9.0c, but on Windows 10
I was installing and running DirectX 9.0c on my laptop to play TF2 or Gmod, and i got an error that says i need Windows 98, XP, 2000, or Millennial edition in order to install it. Any solutions?

DirectX 9.0c is already included with Windows 10.

There should not be a need to install DirectX separately for Win 10.

I started TF2 and it didn't open up
Then i started Gmod, and it said that i am missing D3DX9_40.dll

I don't have Gmod but TF2 I installed for the first time and it launched with no issues on this Win 10 machine.

Have you tried to install this? Supposedly has all of the D9 versions.

Please dont install that diretX version.
Your GPU if fairly new is backwards compatible with all directx version on windows 10.
The only time you may need to set it to use directx 9 is when launching game.

D3DX9_40.dll is part of MS windows and the drivers for the 3D.
Did you allow drivers to install all aspects such as 3d VR and HD audio.
Go to nvidia and update your gpu drivers may fix it.

Use VirtualBox. VMware, even the free editions is more trouble than it's worth.
