Unread message notification won't go away

So I was chatting with a guy when suddently he removed me from his friends list.
I didn't manage to read him last message and now because he removed me I have this notofocation stuck. I tried the steam browser, blocking and then unblocking them, but nothing seems to work. any other ways that it might solve it? thank!

whats UI? the thing is that I can't add him in order to get rid of it.

Launch Big Picture Mode by clicking the icon next to your wallet amount in the top-right of Steam.
The Big Picture user interface will now launch and it should also have a stuck notification.
Click on the notification. See if that's enough to make it go away.

If it doesn't, well... I'm sorry. It was worth a try.
