Friends are getting automatically removed from "Favorite list"

No, not unfriended. They get removed from the list each time I restart my PC (not Steam).

This is not a friend-specific issue, it happens with everybody I try to put on the list.
I currently have 1 group and 16 friends saved, I don't think that would be a limit for maximum
favorites. Any ideas how to fix this? I already tried reinstalling Steam.

I have 4 Friends, & they never get removed...


It's possible what is happening, is that Valve lowered the number limit
for the number of friends you can have in your Favorite List...
& since yours exceeds the new number, it is now having conflicting issues...

Do you think this is the problem?

But for me it seems to let me put as many as I want in favorites, but it only resets to 25 when I restart my PC.

So it feels like it should let me have more than 25 but maybe my PC deletes the saved people over 25 in the favorites list when I restart it. Is there a file on my PC that I can edit to let me have more?

This is the first I'm hearing a favorite friends list? Is there a guide on how to favorite a friend? Also interested on if any progress has been made to fix this bug if I'm going to be using the favorites list now.

Alright, I have investigated this issue a little and it seems as whenever I go above 25 Favorites they are removed. So 25 Favorites is properly the cap.

@FantomDestroyer You can add favorite friends by either drag and dropping them into the favorite friend zone or be right-clicking on them, hover on "manage" and clicking on "Add to Favorites".

If you want to sort your friends, you can right-click on them, hover over "manage" and click on "categorize...". In there you can sort your friends in groups. e.g. who plays what games and so on. There should not be a limit on the amount of categories you can make, so go at it.

I am though confused about, how you open your "friend categories".

Yes it seems like 25 is the limit, also to see the categories you make you just scroll down on your friends list, they will appear below the in game section, but above the online friends/offline friends section.

thx for the post, that confirms my theory that there is a limit of 25.
Got really confused why they were just removed. A little message about the limit would have been nice. Hope they will remove the limit at some point, because I really see no point in it.

I believe this is an unfixable issue. Valve have deliberately made 25 the maximum. Any higher will not stay after you close Steam.

Very odd. I do think that the favorites bar is cloud saved on your Steam account (not confirmed). Maybe it did not save online when you restarted. Is it fixed now?
