Resolution Scaling Graphic Setting
In some games I play there is a resolution scaling option that allows past 100% in the graphic settings. Even though I have a 1440p monitor would I technically be able play in 4K by doing this?

I know it lowers framerate in games dematically but if all the other graphic settings are already maxed and its a title that is 60fps locked than its worth doing, no? (I still would be hitting 60fps with the scaling up)

Digital Foundry has a video on DRS (which isn't the same as DSR btw).

This video talks more about dynamic downscaling and unless I missed something it didn't answer what I asked about upscaling past a displays native resolution.

It's just a form of AA really, you can't see it at 4k as you don't have enough pixels, but it can do an interesting job simulating it, personally, I don't think it's worth it.

p[laying at 1440p already i'd say it's probably not worth it, at 1080p or lower, it can appear a little like a higher quality AA but even with a game capped at 60fps, i'd say it's not ecissarily worth it... :csdmeh:

If all other graphic settings are maxed and setting the resolution scaling above 100% still gives me above 60fps on a 60fps locked game then I don't see why it "isn't worth it". It may not be a large difference but still.

Thank you for answering through, I wasn't sure if anything actually changes when set past 100% when the resolution is already set to the display's native resolution.

it depends on the monitor, im via rx580 and scaling to 1440p, so games run at 1440p and does take more performance and i lose frames, but some games is worth it all day!

Might need to keep an eye on your vram usage, 1440p uses quite a bit more than 1080p, also, scaling 1080p to 1440p usually ends in the picture looking off as it doesn't scale 1:1.

It looks really good, I have done it. The only thing I dislike about this tech is that it screws up my 2nd monitor, so I rarely use it... :-(

Look at text etc, scaling 1080p to 1440p leads to pixels not matching up right which leads to a blurry or fuzzy image, this is unavoidable due to the scaling.

Oh, I thought we were talking about DOWNscaling 1440p to 1080p. THAT looks good. Yeah I'm convinced the other way around looks like utter crap, for sure. No need to try it.

Also, most games don't have tons of tiny text, so any problems with the 3:2 pixel ratio of 1440 to 1080 are mitigated by the text size. In MOST games.
