Steam chat photos broken

so far the last few days whenever i try to upload a photo on chat that isn't from today it shows a broken img icon instead of the image in the preview and says "failed to load" on both sides when i try to send.

Do you know what format the image was in? The image may have been to large to send.

hmm seems to be with jpg and jpeg, png seems to work fine.

Must be too large. .jpg and .jpeg are usually larger than .png's.

thing is it wasn't like that a few days before? so my best guess is the recent steam updated borked it up.

It could be. Outside of image formats there is a plethora of possibilities. I think that it may resolve itself after a few days.

The way I've been working around this, because I'm pretty sure I've run into this since Steam updated chat, is to use a third-party program called Lightshot. It's a toolbar app you can run on Windows that adds a bunch of features to your printscreen button.

Namely, it lets you select the portion of the screen you want to copy, and whether you want to save it as a file, upload it to your account on their site so you can share a link to it, or
copy it to your clipboard as various file types, allowing you to just CTRL-V into Steam chat.
