Steam Games crashing my internet connection
Hello to all gamers friends,

I have a problem that has been going on for more than a week or so.
As soon as I launch a game through steam, my internet connection crashes and I have no longer access to the features through the overlay such as community guides for example! I have no problem with the internet otherwise, everything works fine as long as I don't use a steam game.

I looked at many topics, I read all the Steam articles on this subject, I sent a post to Steam support who couldn't help me, I checked that my firewall was properly configured, I didn't touch the ports of my internet box because I've never had any problems so far so I don't think it's that, I have a fixed ip so it limits the problems to that level in theory... Anyway, I'm a little desperate, please help me! :x :/

Is your internet service capped or otherwise throttled by the company providing it?

No it is a private connection related to my personal subscription so no limitation....

Does your internet crash or merely your connection to the router? How do you connect to the router?
Will Hunter May 3, 2019 @ 1:50am
Sometimes it's Steam who can't connect and say "no connection" even though internet works (I can go on internet without problems in Mozilla Firefox for example) and sometimes it's totally my connection to the router who crash...

I'm with a wifi connection via an extender wifi because my computer is far from my internet box but when I plug an ethernet cable to my extender I have the same problem and I can't plug my computer directly to my internet box because it's not a portable PC...

No problem since last week with that configuration

Well, it's rather likely (happens at least weekly on the forum) that your WLAN adaptor (and in your case, your extender) is of sub-par quality and gets overwhelmed by Steam.
So pull a long ethernet cable (those hings can easily get up to 10 meters, even more and still work properly) to your router and see if that fixes things. If yes, invest into non-crappy WLAN hardware.
You can also try the -tcp launch parameter for Steam, I've read recently that it helps.

I changed my wifi extender less than a year ago so it is of the latest generation.
How can I try the -tcp launch parameter for Steam please? :)

Assuming it works, there's pretty much 0 downsides (unlike, let's say, running Steam with administrative privileges, morons suggest this "solution" all the time on the forums disregarding the rather serious downsides) so you may just as well go permanent. Create a new shortcut to Steam.exe and modify it, or modify your existing one. Append the -tcp parameter to the command.

Yeah, pretty much.

I have restarted my computer and I do not notice any improvement for the moment....
I have contacted my Internet service provider and the automatic diagnosis by phone has detected "a problem on the line", a technician is to intervene tomorrow afternoon... I hope he's good and he'll fix it effectively because I can't take it anymore!

Thank you for your help in any case, I will keep you informed of the evolution of events.

Good morning everyone,

I had feedback about the problems on my internet line and I am lucky to have a father who has some contacts with the technicians at my internet service provider. Apparently, they explained to him that they had found it was a cable that was actually damaged at the dispatcher that supplies my neighbourhood and surrounding areas! They must involve their subcontractor to change the cable to a new one within a week....

Since there has been some recent work near this dispatcher, including resurfacing the road by building a bike path, I think they must have damaged the cable at that time. I tell you this for those who would experience a similar situation it can help you to better understand the problem when you have exhausted all the solutions within your reach.

I hope the subcontractors will be good and conscientious and do it well! :x

I will keep you informed, thank you very much for your suggestions anyway :D

Yeah, pretty much.

Hello,
My problem has been largely solved! There has been a change of the damaged cable and my internet connection is stable again, if not powerful it is a minimum!

Nevertheless, I noticed that my internet connection tended to cut off when I played ONE game in particular: Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun...

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Does anyone have a solution, please?

I find it amazing knowing that I've never had such a problem before, Steam and my entire game library are allowed by my firewall though.
It doesn't even need to be connected to an online account or anything, it's far from being an AAA game that would make my computer spit its guts out so I don't understand where it could come from...

Thank you in advance! :-)

Same question: Does your actual internet connection quit or rather your connection the the router?
Will Hunter May 9, 2019 @ 7:54am
Sometimes Steam said "No connection" even if internet works perfectly fine and sometimes it's my connection to the router...
