Will the valve index work with my htc vive wireless adaptor ?
I already own a 4 month old HTC vive & the official HTC WIGIG wireless adaptor and want to Pre-Order the Valve Index as an upgrade to my VR setup but need to be 100% sure the wireless adaptor will still work with the index.

Hello and thanks for contacting Steam Support.

The HTC Vive Wireless adapter is not compatible with the Valve Index HMD.

For the latest news and updates regarding the Valve Index, please keep an eye on the Index’s Store Page.

Please let us know if you have any further questions. We'll be happy to help.

Thanks for using Steam,
Christopher

Yeah, bummer. That was my question, too.

I have a Vive at home and and some Vive BE's at the office. So far, it's seemed like a better idea to increase the quantity at the office, and to add useful upgrades like Wireless and better GPU's, so we haven't even bothered to get any Vive Pros yet.

I guess we'll probably grab some knuckles to try out, but I can't imagine going backwards to a corded set up, regardless of the other improvements.
I refuse to go back to periodically spinning around to reverse the fact that I've turned and tangled the cord. It's really annoying and immersion breaking. I have my doubts that Valve will create a wireless solution, unfortunately. A vive pro is the most that I can hope for, I guess.

If it was compatible, I'd preorder for sure. Not going back to wired, though.

Same. Absolutely never going back to wired. Maybe they'll pull an HTC and release a wireless adapter between this generation of Index and the 2nd generation.
I just put in an order for the Index controllers. I have a Vive Pro and wireless adapter on the way. I believe I will just wait a few more years as the tech develops and becomes completely wireless as a standard. The day is coming in the not so distant future. Imagine what the specs will be on headsets 3-5 years from now. The Index headset might be nice to have, but I believe I'll hold off. I may never get it unless it's on a sale. I am currently happy with my Vive Pro and I don't even notice much "screen door" effect.
Sad that we won't be getting wireless support at launch at least. I have hopes that Valve will either work with DisplayLink (People behind the tech in the HTC adapter) or with HTC themselves to gain compatibility. I'm imperfectly setup for it, as I have a Vive Pro and wireless, so I can just glean the controllers and base stations from my Index until we get wireless. Unless of course the Index provides some usability that makes the cable worth it. I can potentially see this working with seated VR.

Interesting note, the wireless adapter has the Vive 3 in 1 inputs (USB, power and HDMI) as well as the unified and possibly proprietary Vive Pro connector, whose breakout box swaps HDMI for DisplayPort mini and includes a DP mini > DP cable. So, it seems like there might be a chance that we can see official or even unofficial support for it in the future. If someone were to make a cable that was Index at one end and Vive Pro at the other, I'd think the wireless adapter wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Unless HTC has taken steps to prevent this.

To me, it makes more sense for them to work with Valve on this rather than shut them out in the hopes of selling more Vive Pros. The tech is available and licensable by Valve, just as it was by HTC and is allegedly being licensed by Oculus. If HTC works with Valve to be open source, they could potentially see an uptick in wireless adapter sales.
I believe after 2 or 3 months after its release they will finally announce a wireless adapter for the VALVE INDEX, it would make no sense not to have a wireless adapter for it! Best HMD w/out being able to go wireless.. Really?!?! Specially when the technology is available!!

I agree with you & hope this is a future reveal by valve. Not sure what the max bandwidth of intel's Wigig is but even if they limit the Index to 90FPS on Wireless i would be happy :)

Indeed my friend!! I would be happy as well with 90 FPS! Valve, pls give us the wireless capabilities!!
me interes aXD
Oh that sucks. I was going to upgrade my HMD but no wireless is definitely a no go for me. How did Valve purposely or unknowingly overlooked making this compatible with existing wireless solutions? I guess I will have to settle with just the Index Controllers.
