And I'm not even mentioning all the performance- and technical issues other people have.
only 2 hours? Yet you play games.... hmmm games normally are a waste of time if you wanna go by that logic..
What about when you wanna heng out the washing? Is that a waste of your life time? Just because it is something you do not wanna do?
How is steam supposed to know how you want your games organised? pff....
There's no point talking to him,
he seems to be a decent guy helping people on here,
but in terms of his perspective on reality he's either a paid shill (works for steam to patrol forums) or is a new breed of brainwashed millenial,
nothing he said makes sense ('ads here ads there it's all okay!!11'... )
actually I DON'T have ads on my internet (called 'adblock') I DON'T have ads on my phone (I use a landline and an older cellphone, no way I would EVER allow ads on any type of communication device I own),
youtube? you kidding me? (adblock), etc etc
the weird thing is he ends his statement with 'options'..
yet he somehow forgets that's exactly the problem people have with the new library,
it gives you -No- options,
all the stuff people liked in the old one (i.e. 'list mode', no forced community content, etc) were are forcibly removed,
even if you toggle some of the options 'off' they're still taking up space in your game page,
like somehow you're 'supposed' to see that stuff even though you didn't want to,
it's a dangerous sign of the '1984' world we're moving into (or more apt, 'Brave New World', where Aldous Huxley (I think?) said it best in the interview (around 1950s, you can see it online),
"I think totalitarian control will be more like Brave New World instead of 1984 in the future,
simply because keeping the masses entertained (with games and sites like Steam) and drugged with 'Soma' (weed),
is a lot cheaper and more efficient (for totalitarian control) than using soldiers and weapons."
Take a look around, steam (and people that defend the changes it's making), is a perfect example of that..
Luckily they did include the 'shut off real time activity/community content' toggle, so the new library is bearable because of that,
but overall it's incredibly distracting and shows you how everything is designed to 'take your attention' and keep you from actually being able to do any thinking nowadays.
Very disturbing world we're moving into.
Right... So once again, because i like the new changes i am a shill? Because you hate the library does that give me permission to call you a hater because you keep spreading hatred for something I like? No... So stop calling me a shill.
I said specifically that steam does not have ads.
I also never said or implied that ads are "okay" though i did say they are to be expected on other platforms.
I never said i do not use adblock because who doesn't? Though here is something interesting. Even if you did use adblock on the library, it would not remove much of anything because guess what, there are no ads in the steam client.
Steam is a Store, They are allowed and expected to inform others of the products on it.
Really? Try to categorize one game into two categories at once just like before the update. Not possible anymore.
They seem to have some technical issues with that also... Rename your category and sort... the old name remains in the minilist, the renamed category also appears with just the games you sorted after the update. Looks like they use different dbs which don't migrate properly.
And they changed sorting order of characters. Now its 0-9, special characters and then a-z. Before the update it was: Special chars, 0-9, a-z, which made it possible to have some special categories starting with "-" for example at the top of the list. Now they appear between the games starting with number and the games starting with letters, so I had to rename them to "0-Special category" and this is where the 2nd point comes in.
And what I nearly forgot, they arent dividing between your games and other's games anymore.... guess how it looks like if 2 or more libs with hundred or thousands of games are merged now and you've to sort every single one by hand?
Conclusion: You're proven wrong just by the facts.
Though i did not know about those things. So very interesting to learn about.
Being proven wrong is never a bad thing. It is a learning opportunity.
I appreciate your statement, but a lot of the critics pointed that out and even a lot more stuff. And therefore it's a little annoying to read that things are better now, since the forums are full of facts that prove that wrong. If everything is fine for you, it's fine for me. I am not upset, because we don't share one oppinion.
And I am not a paid beta-tester, I am a customer. I decide with my wallet... just did that to 4 services this month. They don't deliver? I don't spend money anymore, easy as this...
Brainwashed youth
Optional:adjective
available to be chosen but not obligatory.
synonyms: voluntary, elective, at ones discretion
These are exactly the points that many are trying to make here. It is not optional. There is no way for us to get around them if we don't want to use them.
The option to sort family sharing is gone. There is no option to turn off unneeded/unwanted "features".
All the "new features" (i.e. the whats new and community hub for each game) added to the library were things one could already access through steam with two clicks at most, and weren't thrown in your face if you didn't want to see them.
If I wanted to see the latest news for a game I had the option to click on the game and there it was in plain text. Not an unremovable, unclosable, constantly there resource eating banner. if I wanted the option of even more news there were links to the right.
If I wanted to see the community hub (*shudder* who in their right mind?) I had the option to click the community tab up at the top. Not have it load up every damn time I clicked on a game.
If I wanted all this extraneous data on my game achievements I had the option to click on my profile and go look. Not have it plastered and glowing with handy little mouse-over pop-ups (wtf) in several separate sections on my screen.
You say there are more options, there are not. In fact with the removal of filtering the shared games there are fewer. There IS however a massive info dump from all other sections of the Steam platform directly and irreversibly (atm) into our Library which I think you are confusing with options.
It is not needed, all the info was already there if you opted to go to it. And if you wanted all this info on one screen, with fancy graphics, that should have been the option.

This guy knows
Being able to see what your friends are playing is considered an AD?
Uh, i'm sorry but NO
Seeing what someone is doing is NOT an advertisement, its no different than your friend telling you what they are doing, they are playing a game, nothing more nothing less. Seeing what someone is playing has been in Steam for A LONG TIME, the only thing thats changed is how that info is displayed.
Pretty much every game client available that has a friends list tells your friends what game you're playing, Steam is Not the only one to do this.
It would be a bit hard to join a game your friend is playing without knowing what game their in, dont you think?
People should really think about the bigger picture before complaining about stupid irrelevant stuff.
With that logic viewing someones profile and going to their Owned game list would be considered an Advertisement. thats just dumb and incorrect thinking.
Yes, because I need to differentiate between my library and theirs. Perhaps one day, I want to buy my own game, so I can play with him/her. Perhaps, I just want to see my own listings which consist of games I want to play and another list of my wife's games, which consist of casual games which I normally don't play. The reasons are ultimately irrelevant. It makes no sense why Steam would merge 5 peoples' games together in one listing.
