Why did you remove catagories

I have been using steam for many years and over this long period of time I have amassed 235 games. When you have that many games it's nice to be able to sort everything out and that's what I did. I spent about 30 minutes sorting all of my games into organized categories and now all of those categories are gone. I understand the desire to have a universal look for steam and the frustration with rolling back an update you worked hard on because people like it. However, happy users should be the number 1 priority and as far as that goes it would make sense to have an option for people to use the old menu or even to import the categories they made before. It just seems like such a basic feature that shouldn't have been overlooked. Why not give people more control over their libraries and more options?

I dont seem to be getting this. when I check my collections it's completely new with none of my old catagories in there.

My categories also survived the library upgrade intact (although a lot of them are now pretty redundant since I can create Dynamic collections with tags which cover most of the use cases I already had), there were reports on the beta forums about others who lost their categories though so you aren't alone whatever it is seems to be quite rare though.

I have almost 1100 games all in categories that have not changed at all with the new update. Everything is still there and working...

I had half my games suddenly uncategorised. My Steam was up and running, got the pop-up for the new update, let it do its thing and poof, half was uncategorised. Was thinking about perhaps overhauling my categories last week, so now was a good moment to actually do that.

My therory is users were trying to “fix” the old categories disappearing by making a specific file read only

With the new update doing so is causing the conversion to fail and thus the categories disappear as a result

I had my categories disappear when I opted into the beta. Not checked if they are back since the update went live to all, but really hoping so. Not sitting going through 2.5k games again

I did nothing like that, I haven't modified or changed anything. I don't even use skins or such.
I merely pressed the update button when the notification came and let Steam close itself, restart and update. Whatever Steam did to mess it up, it did it by itself in this.

This didn't happen when I used the beta in September. Heck, I've never had issues with the categories before.

It was only half the games. Come to think of it, most were games I've purchased or installed since I switched back from the beta in september.

ya it also didn't work for me. At this point I'm also kinda curious what could be causing this problem
