As per this post, some information on how to potentially fix this and/or provide feedback that should help in fixing it.

Have you turned off GPU accelerated web views in the Settings -> Interface section of Steam settings? We had a known issue during beta with that off causing failure to redraw when flipping components that use web views. We had a fix for that which had fixed the known cases, but would like to know the value of your setting and see if this is maybe related.

Also, can you confirm the version of Windows you are running and the Steam package version: number you see in the Help -> About dialog so we can tell which build you are on?

You're the one who needs to stop smoking.

The client does not use that much unless your system is crap.

Not true. Steam CEF implementation is suffering for massive memory leaks from about an year.

You better check your system. Steam is currently forcing downloads for all images on the client because our overlords have decided that every image must now be hi-res.
500MB of RAM?
What is this, Chrome?
Why is Steam eating up my RAM suddenly?
This new library skin is mega garbage, at least have an option to revert.
What the ♥♥♥♥.
If nothing else this is a compelling argument for using a different launcher.
I can't fathom what kind of abject stupidity and incompetence leads to something this insanely retarded.
Seriously. I can't use this garbage. This is bloatware, the library is consuming so much bandwidth and ram it's trash.

Whoever designed this update, and whoever okay'd it, needs to be fired.
I don't understand, maybe they want people to start using Epic.
This ♥♥♥♥ looks like a bad mix of Origin and Uplay and it's disgusting.
The simple, utilitarian design of the old Library and its options to make it look/work differently were just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fine, now we have this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of an update that's guzzling down ram like a workaholic ♥♥♥♥♥. I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sick of it already.

Well yeah, Steam is based on Chromium, the open source project Chrome largely is based on.

Well the UI appears to be a lot busier, IE more complex. That has consequences. And complaining about major updates and increased requirements is an Internet rite of passage.

I remember people grumbling about Steam in 2003 with it's 100mb memory footprint. Somehow we all survived.

There's no option to go back either, it's like UI designers are so terrified people won't use their horrible garbage because the older, functional, and lightweight UI worked just fine that they forced it. This isn't 2003, and using that much RAM while IDLING isn't in any way reasonable.
Chrome running several tabs with one of them playing 1080p video was doing that, having Steam hidden is still eating 500MB of RAM. That's retarded, it peaks at halfway past 600 sometimes. I don't understand what lead to this.
The ironic thing is Epic pushed an update to fix their UI today and it looks better.
Well people had strong opinions about 100mb in 2003, I can promise you that. Same exact arguments, different numbers. I'm sure this isn't just history repeating itself this time around...
Amen! This is EXACTLY what I DID NOT want! I.e.- an over-complicated, icon riddled, hype-train, news-feed IN my library, which takes up WAY more resources than it should. Get this friggin spam feed OUT of our libraries please!
Low performance mode took Steam ram usage from 1100 to 800. Not much of an improvement and they need to figure out a way to make it better.

It's still an inordinate amount of resources, you can't scale 100mb from 2003 with 500 in 2019.
Even then that's not the only argument being weighed on this change, unless they've deleted the threads again someone made a list of things wrong with this update. Along with other problems they've run into. None of the feedback from the beta was taken into account, they pushed this half-baked garbage fire out anyway.

It also downloaded hi-res cover art for every one of my games, installed or not and dropped back into my library 30 F2P games I tried out years ago, this is great for metered connections. I think overall it was several hundred MB, someone posted on reddit that their entire library of 3000 games had their pictures downloaded for this fancy new trash UI. Neat.
The library just brakes my mind&soul, from the now needed "put your cursor over the emptiness for things to appear" to the disgusting filler for these vertical art, i used to loved to see the beautiful artwork of my games , neatly and full-on, now the OCD part of mine just cant handle the cheap graphic filler. I regret to update the steam client. Just purchased 5 new games , but ill wait to purchase more until the main steam experience goes back to at least to a practical and a asthetically pleasing standpoint.

What do you try to say? 1gb ram for a drm client is fine because in 2003 people found 100mb much?
