As per this post, some information on how to potentially fix this and/or provide feedback that should help in fixing it.

Have you turned off GPU accelerated web views in the Settings -> Interface section of Steam settings? We had a known issue during beta with that off causing failure to redraw when flipping components that use web views. We had a fix for that which had fixed the known cases, but would like to know the value of your setting and see if this is maybe related.

Also, can you confirm the version of Windows you are running and the Steam package version: number you see in the Help -> About dialog so we can tell which build you are on?

You can use Process Explorer. It's a Microsoft tool so it's safe, and works a lot better than taskmanager.

Running Dying Light before Steam update? Smooth rollercoaster. After update? frame lag, menu lag, inventory lag, ...lag. All settings were low before, still low now, I've tried unticking everything and made it a potato, still lag. Minimizing all steam windows gets rid of the stupid 1GB RAM usage down to 100mb at least.

More details below because I can see it keeps getting asked:

Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 TI

I have low bandwith mode, low performance mode, disable community content ticked.
Unticked GPU accelerated rendering, smooth scrolling, directwrite, hardware video decoding.

Steam Client Application: Built: Oct 30 2019 at 13:07:23, API: v020, Package Version: 1572467527

Running Steam in compatibility mode for Windows 8 (I have Windows 10, but Steam crashes at start up and completely stops responding since the update.)

over 300 comments now, think it's safe to say the person who was so keen to post the first reply was wrong :)
just popped back to say everything my end is good after leaving steam on all day in small mode. I hope they don't remove it completely.

140.6 mb :) pretty much where i think it should always be. I'll test normal mode over the weekend for 12hrs and post the difference.

Thanks Tharon for pointing out that i forgot to include the steam.exe
here is the correct screenshot

175 mb for small mode (12hrs idling) i'm still happy with that.
That's pretty smug of you, especially considering
A/ You're not everyone else and
B/ A lot of other people have replied showing that they have the same problem.
dazzaa 1/nov./2019 às 11:50
eh, this is small mode, not valves beloved library view, what's yout point?
perhaps wait until i print the results of normal steam before you assume which side of the fence i'm on please.

Oh hey this thread has changed so many times thanks to the mods merging it 300 times I didn't even realise what you meant by "first post"
Disregard me entirely. I thought this was part of the thread I made complaining.
Jesus.

First post has never changed though ;) And only 3 times where threads merged into this.

This is the RAM usage on my system. Upper part is Steam loaded without accessing the chat at all, lower part is Steam loaded with accessing the chat.

https://imgur.com/a/fh7cLIm

It's 182 VS 225 megabytes. Steam uses 40 megabytes only to start the chat UI. Note that memory usage grows with friends number and usage. I have "only" 27 friends a only one is online now, this is why is so low.

* THIS IS THE OLD UI*
I don't want to install the new because (a) it will kill my bandwidth by downloading 1400 games worth of images and (b) i find it really messy.

A note on methodology.

- Hardware accelaration is disabled. Enabling it will hide some of the ram usage, because is loaded in the graphic card ram.
- Windows 7, CPU Xeon e3 1241, 16 GB ram, GTX 1660 TI.
- Only loaded Steam without interact on it at all.

It's not, cause there is no fix. Please help by providing the correct information so Valve can look into and fix this bug that is affecting some users.
