REMOTE-PLAY: Poor connection even with Ethernet
Yesterday I finally went ethernet for in-home streaming after years of wi-fi headaches and even using Powerline with minimal success. It was FINALLY working just fine yesterday and earlier today on "beautiful" client settings but suddenly the connection got so bad that it's unplayable to where I can't even navigate any title screens. Does anyone have any advice?

Random info:
Nobody else is using the internet in-house.
Network traffic is prioritized.
I've unplugged and re-plugged the router.
Restarted steam on both computers.
Downgraded to "Fast" client setting.
Cord connections are fine.

SPECS-Host
Dell i7 3.something ghz
15gb ram
NVIDIA 660 2GB

Client
2014 Macbook pro
8gb ram

Router:
AT&T NVG 599 Broadband
CAT 6e cable

Okay I disabled hardware encoding on the host PC and now it's working fine..... Hopefully the problem doesn't come back.

No.....now it's back again. Now what do I do?

Enable the performance graph and read it using the tutorial in the appropriate forum. That's the one posted by Hotsauce in case that wasn't clear.

Thank you. I'll repost this in the streaming forum. On a side note I ran the performance graph and it spiked big time with the red and green bars. I just don't understand why ethernet worked just fine and then now it doesn't.

It's a pure ethernet cable.
PC (host) >> Router >> Mac (client).

The performance graph indicated massive spikes for red and green. Blue remained low.

Well, check out the tutorial on how to read that graph.

Thank you! But the link only takes me to the discussion board and I'm not seeing a pinned tutorial. Just "How to report a Bug."

Ah ha. I found it. Thanks again.

Common denominator, past and present, is the AT&T router. Might want to buy a decent one and put the AT&T in bridge mode.

Alright I believe I've isolated the issue. I took my laptop downstairs where my PC and router are and connected it to the router with a cat5e cable (different from the cat6e I'm running upstairs to stream). Anyway, everything worked just fine. I took it back upstairs and tried the cat6e again and sure enough, it hang and couldn't stream.

My cat6e cable is only 25ft long. It goes up through the floor, out from where the TV is and over to my laptop. I run my laptop power cable and ethernet through one of those plastic hoses used to organize cords.

I also disconnected the laptop power cord to see if it's interfering and it doesn't seem to be. Since it worked great and then pooped out on me, do you think it's the cord?

Yup, cable may be damaged.

Well now bad news...now the other cable I'd used for a successful test isn't working. My provider is sending a new router so maybe that will help.
Chuckle and sigh.....

What the heck? Now restarting steam on both computers fixed it. I'd done that already multiple times!

Well it started working again earlier today.......and now it doesn't.
