This article does not help it does exactly what the question asker does not want to do.
And the reason i came to this question is to not use ds4windows.
This site contains a similar part about connecting a DS4 through blutooth to Steam: https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-use-ps4-controller-steam-4570989
Next: Turn on DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller pairing mode by pressing and holding the PS and Share buttons on the wireless controller at the same time. The light bar on the back of the wireless controller will start flashing once pairing mode is active.
Next: Connect DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller via Bluetooth on your computer, go to Bluetooth settings and turn Bluetooth on. Select scan for new devices and then choose [Wireless Controller]. You can now use your wireless controller to control compatible games and applications.
Done.
Now there you should remove your Dualshock 4 (wireless controller) device. After that use the option there (upper left) to add new device. Make sure your bluetooth is on, put your Dualshock 4 into pairing mode (share+PS button) and connect that way.
Do not connect thorough Bluetooth in Settings but thorough add new device in View devices and printers in Contol panel!!!
Hope it helps, it worked for me :)
#ä## THIS WORKS !!!!
tried copious ways from web advise - this is the one that worked flawlessly (with subsequent detection through DS4WIN)
Thank you Dodomix
