steam full screen on start
is there a way to make the steam program open in full screen instead of a window the size of my entire desktop? it is kind of a pain to have to click the button every time or minimize steam to get to my task bar or do anything else on the computer. haven't found a setting to make this happen.

its probably an obvious solution i'm just missing

confused. your entire desktop is full screen, is it not?

if you mean the way a game opens full screen, Steam Big Picture.

This is a windows thing, windows remembers your last window that was open.
To change the size of the Steam client window on the desktop pull in the edges to fit what you want , that window size will also apply to your web browser.
Then close Steam Client and exit using the Steam boot loader on the taskbar bottom right corner near your clock just rightclick that Steam logo and exit.
Windows has now stored that settings and steam remembers as well.

Now when you relaunch Steam client it will remember that previous window size
Do this each time before shutting down your computer close Steam and fully exit there should never be a problem with window size again.

sorry about the confusion. so in the top right of about every windows program. have minimize, window/fullscreen, and close buttons. it's always launching as a window the full size and so it blocks me from using my task bar or anything like that until i hit the middle button or minimize or close steam out. i'm wanting the steam program to start in maximized because i'm lazy and don't want to do the extra click.

but did the thing jaunitta suggested and just made the window load smaller on start up to stop this being an issue to me.
thank you

Hey man, Idk if you have an answer yet but what I did was open steam, go to steam settings and go to interface. There, I unchecked the option that said scale text and icons to match monitor settings and worked just fine. Give it a try if you hadn't already

I don't seem to have that option in the interface tab. I've been annoyed by this issue for ten years. I'm tired of accidentally resizing the window when I try to drag the scroll bar.

Disabling scaling does not work for me and I need it anyway.

Really baffling that Valve still, after so many years, haven't fixed this simple issue. Is it really that hard to add a "Start Steam Client in Fullscreen" checkbox? Or just make the Steam Client respect the maximized window setting in Windows. Valve seriously need to address this.

In the latest update, Valve made a nice quality-of-life change for launch options for games, giving users a way to choose a defalt option, which saves a few seconds. Why can they not do the same for fullscreen and save users the few seconds it takes to press the maximize button every time they start the client? It could be a simple command line even.

Yea and now I'm the one who is starting to get pissed off. :D I enjoyed the fact that Steam launched just in the background and then I launched my games easily from desktop. Now Steam, every single time if I start my computer (yes, even after restart) opens up steam on fullscreen. The main window I mean.
