WTF! Friend gifted me Dark Souls Remastered but the email link generates an error
So my Norwegian friend generously gifted me a copy of Dark Souls Remastered, i received no notification on steam and i didn't get a popup gift window like i've seen with gifts in the past, so i checked my email and there was a link from steam saying i had been gifted the game, and when i went to click the button to accept the gift it opens up the steam site with the login to confirm window, and when i fill out my information and put in my stema guard auth code im brought to a page which says there was an error with this request try again later or contact support.

I told my friend and he said after contacting steam they replied to him stating that you can't gift games in his currency, which makes no sense as he's from Norway and he uses the Euro.

From my end, i've not received the gift and there is no way for me to accept or decline it like you would normally be able to, so he is not able to put in a support ticket for a refund.

What the fuq, it's been a few days already and steam has taken payment yet have failed to deliver the game, if he used paypal to process the payment and goes through with the paypal dispute process valve will take the liberty of blacklisting his account so he can't use it.

What the actual fuq can i do?

I've been using steam for over 11 years and this is the first time i've ever encountered an error with the gifting process and valves reply on the matter is nonsense as millions of steam users buy games using Euros, i'd really appreciate any input anyone can shed on this as valve seem to not give a toss and due to their end user agreement if my friend tries to get his money back valve will punish him which is bloody mental!

If the price difference is greater than 10% a game can not be gifted. If a gift isn't redeemed or declined within 30 days it is automatically refunded.

Actually, Norway isn't even a member of the European Union; as such, they can't adapt the Euro even if they wanted to (I think). Anyway, they have their own currency.

Reject it and have him buy a global key on the site that currently sells it for cheapest instead, most likely gonna be cheaper than steam store + avoid all the bs errors related to gifts

First of all, Norway isn't a member of the European Union, nor do they use the Euro, but the Krone, which is supported by Steam. Your friend bought the game at a price in Krone that's more than 10% different than the price in Euro at your location, thus gifting is restricted to prevent abuse. If the gift isn't claimed after 30 days, the money will be returned to your friend automatically.

The only failure here is that the system is supposed to block the purchase before it happens after he selects the giftee.

The gift emails are still borked. I always suggest accepting it within the client itself.

Yeah, you're spot on, my mate even told me "We aren't actually part of the EU, and i didn't use paypal i used my bank card, so thats why its messed up" still what a ballache of a situation though.

I'm not going to pretend to understand why vikingr currency is not valid for gifting, im just going to put it down to it being vikingr money as that's the next most rationale thing my tired brain can come up with.

If you were talking to/about my issue, there was no notification on the steam client, thats why i checked my emails as i was confused when my friend told me he gifted me two games and he asked why i had not installed them to play with him straight away, its cus i didnt know he had - i even checked my notifications panel history and there was no listing of the gifts, valve didnt process the gifts like normal so i assume the notification and the being able to accept or decline option is tied to that, even clicking the button in the email to open it in the browser didn't do anything.

Eh. you learn summat new erryday, thanks for the input though guys. ggz

It has nothing to do with the currency. If the price difference for the region between the 2 people is more then 10% it can't be gifted. It doesn't matter what the currency is.

That is to stop fraud and people buying games for their "friends" from a cheaper region and gifting them the game.

Rightyo that would make more logical sense than some stupidly assumed embargo because of a country not being part of the eurocuck union. thanks.
