Can't download/update games on steam (Mac)
So I have seen a few discussions about this topic but none of them brought me answers...
I am on a MacBook Air, on macOS Mojave Version 10.14.5 and I live in Belgium.

The problem firstly occurred a few weeks ago when I tried to install a new game, I couldn't and I started to receive the error message (something like): "server content unreachable". I tried everything I could (from what I found on the steam website/other people's posts) but it still didn't work, and this error occur right when I click the install button.
But sometimes, the error isn't the one above, but "connection timed out" and happens a few minutes after I started the download.
BUT, the download doesn't really start. If you can see the graph of the download (with blue vertical lines), what I can see is only a few lines, then everything stops and it "continues" without doing anything, then the error message arrives.

I think I may have a clue to where the problem is from, because when I want to install the game, and that I get the error message, it says: "an error occurred while UPDATING"... It's not even installed!

I think I said everything that happened and I hope I was clear and that someone will help me with this issue because I can't play at any game on my steam (either need update/not installed)

Thanks !!

I'm having the same issue - I've tried everything in all the past threads and everything on the steam support site. Nothing works.

Do you have a VPN or Anti-virus running? Try disabling it long enough to see if that works.
Otherwise, try creating a new user on your Mac, and seeing if you can download with that.

I managed to make it work by creating another mac user, it seemed like I hadn't deleted all my steam files before uninstalling it, so some files may cause some issues on the main user...
Anyway, just create another user if on mac, it's a bit annoying but at least we have it working again.

Try this, works for a problem similar to what you described:
open steam-steam-preferences-downloads-change download region to Vietnam-restart steam

Another solution is to turn off private relay from iCloud. It helped in my case
