Not all games save uncompressed copies of screenshots
I was looking through my uncompressed photos folder and I noticed that source games like cs:go, tf2, left4dead2 and gmod do not save uncompressed copies, but all the other games do. Is there any way to fix this?

It's not a bug, so it can't be "fixed". It's up to each game to decide where, how and when to store screenshots.

There are two things that I would check in your case:
a) how does Steam save its screenshots
b) how does Geforce Experience save its screenshots (or an equivalent AMD tool, if you have a AMD card)

Also, keep in mind that not all compression schemes are "lossy".

Unfortunately the older source games like those won't do it. Found that out while taking more screenshots in Garry's Mod recently and MAN they are awful. While 'not all compression is lossy', the version of compression that Source gives is *garbage*.

Take your own print screens.

that requires another overlay, and an open paint program more than likely. While that's great for some things, that also unfortunately adds whatever UI and other things are visible on screen.

noooot everyone wants to be running bloatware from nvidia or other makers, to do this, and not everyone knows how (like me) to use in-windows clip tools properly without interrupting their actual game experience.

Click printscreen, alt+tab, paint, paste, alt+tab back and play.

You can even find scripts on github for this.

yes.

Yes, I know that - and when a system has the ability to go, "f12, uncompressed screenshot key" ...

Which would YOU rather do?

Well you're going to have to choose between the most convenient thing and the most desirable outcome in those cases... so whichever one is more important to you.

This is really frustrating cause there seems to be almost no rhyme or reason to it. New games that save regular Steam screenshots fail to save uncompressed copies with the rest.

I apologize for necro-ing this thread but I have found a solution that works for CS:GO and if I remember correctly other Source games too

they all save uncompressed screenshots in .TGA format in a directory like this
Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\screenshots

I hope this helps some random person on the internet coming by this thread

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
