Reinstall a clean copy of a game?
I tried to mess with some mods for oblivion and I monumentally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up. None of the mods load and I need to restart from the beginning. The only problem is anytime I uninstall and re-install the game it re-installs all the files that I manually added. How do I install game as if I were doing it for the first time?

(I have the cloud turned off now but it was turned on and it has synced before)

Downloaded mods stay in the installation folder even if you uninstall the game.
Go into your steam/steamapps/commom folder and delete the Oblivion folder manually after uninstalling the game.
Then reinstall the game from your library.
That should give you a clean install.

Uninstalling a game won’t necessarily get rid of files that you’ve added manually - you’ll have to hunt them down and delete them yourself.

Once you’ve got them all then you can do a clean reinstall.

I am so upset with how difficult it was for me to look this up. It wasn't in support and understandably they made it difficult to figure out how to contact their support if it's even possible

WHY WOULD STEAM DO THIS?! So mean troubleshooting steps (mods or no) require the average gamer to UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL.

And yet....THE GAME WILL NOT BE CLEANLY INSTALLED AT ALL. It's like I'm being punished for modding lol. (and by extension my husband cause I modded Elden Ring while he wasn't playing but a DLC just dropped)

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
