The new GOG galaxy 2 need my steam account log in
i got a invite of the beta (GOG galaxy 2.0) and when i'm using it they tell you to log in to your steam account by write your user and password not with sign in through STEAM
https://i.imgur.com/xglosHz.png

(the goal is Connect GOG GALAXY 2.0 with multiple platforms and unite all your games and friends scattered across them in one app.)

for myself i'm will not do that (i will never write my log in to a third party app whatever is) i don't need to
(only if there a way without write your login info)

I just ask this question for knowledge

Edit: is it safe to share login info with that third party web ?
MAYBE they can save the login info on their data !! or share it with other party !! or maybe some can get them from there

I think it would be safer to keep one account per service and not share them on one platform.

In my case, keeping my unique gog and steam account separate and not share between.

And while we're at it, don't have the same password on all of your online accounts.

GOG is a highly trusted platform. There is no way they will be stealing your information. Those developers are the most consumer friendly developers in the world.
They may not steal it, but they may have a brainfart and store the login data on their servers for "our convenience" so that after a reinstall, you only need to login to galaxy. A hack, a cracked database, and all your accounts are compromised.

That said, they're currently not storing any authentication data on their servers.

AGAIN: They're currently not doing this.

Exactly, they collect the API for profile, and friend matching to help you import your friends that also did the import as well to help find your friend on GoG to add them.

Just quoting the part said on the website, bold, and underline the import part.
We’re not storing any authentication data from platforms you connect in GOG GALAXY 2.0. Once you disconnect a platform, all your imported data will be removed from our servers. For more in-depth information please check our privacy policy.
Imported data means your games, profile stats, game stats, and etc, not login details as login details were never stores on their servers to begin with, as stated by GoG.

How do you think that works, exactly? Magic?

This, I think, is what they mean when they talk about "a little knowledge being dangerous".

I don't care if it's a "safe" platform. It didn't used to require my steam credentials plus it's against Steam TOS to share your password to begin with. I used the old version of Galaxy and I was using the beta for a while before it just started requiring this unacceptable password login. There is NO need for them to have this information since it's all available through the legitimate Steam API. Hopefully Steam will do something to stop this before someone gets totally screwed.

The steam TOS says you aren't allowed to share your password with people who are going to use your account. It's 100% fine to share it with sites for connecting.

There is nothing steam can do. They are an independent site and Steam has no control over them

You're not sharing anything with GoG, you're logging into GoG with Steam. Similar mechanism, similar legal standing. Meaning a) do it and b) it's sfe all right.

In short only enter your Steam credentials into genuine Steam client and Steam website aka made by Steam. All others are at your own risk.
