Cant enter code for F.E.A.R on steam

I recently bought F.E.A.R (on disc and it came with a code) and tried entering on steam. It said it was an invalid code. I tried multiple times but it said the same thing, so i've come to the conclusion that it is meant to be entered on a platform other than steam. If anyone knows where its meant to be entered please tell me

F.E.A.R.1 was not Steam redeemable.

Check the box cover to see if it says where to register the key.

The key is just an install key. Dunno if you're new to PC gaming but if so most AAA retail games used to come with keys, put the disk in, try to install as normal and during install it'll prompt you to enter that key. It's just a form of DRM / anti-piracy.

If the product's box does not say steam required, it's not a Steam version of the game. Fear 1 can be purchased ON steam, but your copy will need to just be played off of it.

Also the original game's host-servers for mp have long since been removed by the publisher, so you might be kinda screwed there...

No, you should simply put the disc in, start installingthe game and you'll eventually get a screen where you have to put in the cd key.

What you have bought, is a relic of the old world, the pre-Steam era. Treasure it, that world is almost forgotten.

The retail box was never be meant to used with Steam so its product code doesn't work on Steam.

There are a few 3rd party product codes that work with Steam (for example Unreal Tournament III) but F.E.A.R. is not one of them.
