Cannot connect xbox 360 controller to Steam?

Hello all,

As the title says it all, I am having trouble connecting my xbox 360 wired controller to steam. When I plug in the controller into my computer i hear the sound which means my PC recognizes it and the centre button on the controller starts flashing. However I am struggling to connect it to Steam and play some Call of Duty with a controller. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have it plugged in for a couple of minutes and check that the controller is recognised in your computers device manager..

I have left it plugged in for a while and I think that it is not being recognized. However I do have the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Via Play & Charge Kit.... Anything I can do?

But an XBox 360 wireless receiver, an XBox One S or a wired gamepad. The play&charge kit doesn't have any data lines.
