Login Required After Every Restart
Every time I restart my computer, I have to login to Steam again. I have the "remember my password" box checked, but it still doesn't remember. I have Steam Guard Mobile Authentication enabled, and I use a VPN for all my network traffic. Do those interfere with persistent login?

What about Steam > Settings > Account >>> uncheck "Dont save account credentials..."

:qr:

I have the same problem for years.
Never figured out how to fix it.
I keep my PC on sleep instead of turning it off so I reduce amount of times I have to type in my password and guard code.

I don't have that checked but Steam is still not saving credentials.

Using just 1 account and still doesn't save?

I'm using multiple accounts on one PC and my brother uses his account on that PC.

But when I log in with my account and check Remember My Password, it should automatically log me in with that account on next boot?

In my case when Steam starts it asks me to log in again like if I haven't checked Remember My Password.

1. Log in with it checked in the login screen.

2. Uncheck in the settings.

3. Log out.

4. Log back in.

Now test it by logging out and back in.

I tried this:
-Check on login screen and uncheck in settings
-Log out, log back in
-Log out and log back in one more time
-Check in the settings
-Log out and log back in
-Log out and log back in again

Every single time I had to retype my password and enter guard code
It remembers my username on login screen, but I have to type password and guard code every time.
And it's not just after rebooting PC. Just exiting Steam and launching it again logs me out.

I had the same issue a while ago, make sure that the service within Services called "Credential Manager" is running, i set the startup on this to Automatic rather than Manual.

One other thing to also check, go into registry and browse to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam

and check that the value for the DWORD key: RememberPassword is set to the number 1

Just to spell it out explicitly, are you running multiple OS accounts?

Do you mean Windows user accounts?
I have only one user account per Windows.

Bad idea. Not only will it lead to exactly this situation, namely you having to log in because your brother logged in previously you're also opening yourself to issues. If your brother cheats, your Steam account will go down. And should he decide to install malware, your email and, well, everything is endangered. Run TWO SEPARATE accounts, one per person. That should help wth the Steam login "issue" as well. Also, only one of those accounts should have administrative privileges. Ideally for you, yours.

I don't think that you understood me.
I have 2 separate Windows OSes on 2 different partitions.
And I have 1 Windows user account per windows (I haven't added any User Accounts in Control Panel)
My brother and I have separate Steam accounts.

But that doesn't matter because even when only I use the PC and check "remember my password" on Steam, it doesn't remember it next time I start Steam.
It doesn't work on first Windows and it doesn't work on second Windows.
But it does work on Ubuntu.

Maybe there's bug in Steam Client for Windows?
Even when I freshly installed Windows, before I modified any settings, Steam couldn't remember my password.

You haven't make it clear whether you share an account or not. Let's assume you don't.
Theres no such bug, not a general one. If there was, the forum would be full with complaints because everybody would be affected. Do you run the same Steam install from both OS'? That may cause odd effects well. Suggestion: Cleanly install Steam, don't share the folder and see what happens.

I have cleanly installed Steam one one OS, and symlinked the whole Steam folder on another OS.
Steam won't remember password on any of them.
It couldn't even remember it while I had separate installations on both of them.

As I was saying (emphasis added)

Setting the Credential Manager service to automatic worked for me.
