gift sent by mistake to a total stranger

Hi everyone!

Happen to anyone yet? I did it today. M468 permanent - unfortunately sent gift to some unknown guy who is on mu friends list. I dont know how it happened, I wanted to send it to xOptic who is my son in RL.

What should I do? Can I expect from STEAM to react, or should I just buy another gun.

If your trade went walkies to a different account (cancelled and redirected) then you are compromised or the user impersonated your son's account. Do these as a precaution:-

Scan for Malware/virus https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/
Deauthorize all devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
Change your Account password on a secure device.
Generate new back up codes.
Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

Valve won’t undo your mistake for you. You can contact the person you sent it to, but they’ve no obligation to you. Otherwise, yeah, you’ll have to buy the item again.

Thanks for fast reply, if our accounts are compromised we will try to protect them better, but I think it might be my mistake, that I clicked a wrong button, cause I was on the rush.

Only if a gift is in store purchase form and is initiated by the receiver.

Was it a market item trade or a store purchase trade?

Store purchase trade. About 39000 gold wich I bought with mu VISA card.

See if you can obtain a refund https://help.steampowered.com/en/ but you will need the receiver to agree to it. You'll also need to meet the requirements of the purchase outlined in the Steam refund policy also https://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/
