Items gone missing in a trade
I only lost 18 cents but others might lose way more so this is worth reporting

I sent 667 gems to my friend, but the gems disappeared from my inventory without him accepting the trade

and the weird thing is that its not in my trade history, but it appeared in the steam chat that I sent a trade. When I clicked on the blue trade button the trade I sent wasn't in the send trades tab, neither in the trade history.

Weird are you able to go back in the trading menu and cancel trade offer maybe it's still in there. Or your friend took it and lied to you that it didn't work or something like that that's my only guess

Was it cancelled and made again, going to an impersonator account?

Sounds more like it went temporarily missing in a server glitch. Read a few times about this, mostly with gems. They might pop in again after a few hours, or when you do your next trade. Or at least I hope so.

It would be the in the trade history if he accepted it

It would the in the trade history if he accepted it
what does your trade history show, that is what we need to know to tell you what happened.
